    Noisy DVD Drive

I have a sony sata DVD writer (not sure which model) but when I play movies in which ever program it spins at full speed and sounds like a jumbo jet! Is there any way of making it spin at 1x or at least quieter. OS is Vista home premium.

    Thanks

Try to find your model here: The Firmware Page :: Index
(or somewhere in the forums there)

I think you can install modified firmware to slow down spin speed

    Re: Noisy DVD Drive

Could be a faulty drive... I bought a brand new DVD writer and it sounded exactly like you described - a jumbo jet - when it span quickly. For example, when windows boots it checks to see whats in each drive and it would make such a racket at that point! Anyway, I sent it back and got ANOTHER faulty one, same problem. So I got that one replaced and this one is silent in comparison.

As a rule of thumb, if it sounds loud but "deep" then it's probably borked. If its loud and "high" (like a hair dryer) then its just the normal spinning noise so try what's been said above.
