Hi guys, sorry for the questions , just want to make sure my new PC is working as it all should be

First of all does it all look right for the CPU, i noticed it was at 1.6ghz? does it only rise when needed?


Also it several programs my memory is shown as DDR3 and in the individual slots it appears as PC2-6400 - 400Mhz? , should it not be 800Mhz?



Wont be many more questions, just want to make sure Im making full use of the new stuff

DDR2 FSB is multiplied by 2. So 800MHz is 400MHz x 2.

Intel step speed underclocks the chip at idle, so 1.6 is normal. You can turn it off though.

No idea about the DDR3 thing.. must just be messing up.

yeah, the Bios on load picks it up as DDR2 800Mhz, so that seems ok.

I thought that about the intel just wanted to make sure

All seems ok, turning off SpeedStep or the equivalent will make your CPU run at the full 2.6ghz all the time.

Your memory speed is correct 400mhz x 2.

The DDR3 is unusual, does your board support both DDR2 and DDR3 ram?

nope just ddr2,

where would i turn the underclock off?

It'll be in the bios somewhere, chipset features or something like that probably.

you want to turn off speedstep... but there is not point in turning it off unless you want to overclock... it makes no difference to the speed, it only saves power

Yeah just wondered,

My old pc blue screens alot now seemingly, but it still has alot of data I need on it? Would the best way to get the data from it this pc to swap the HDD into here?

Yeah just plug it in. If it's IDE you may need to swap the boot order in the bios as it will no doubt want to boot from IDE over SATA.

Sounds good, if I then took photos etc off it, and it put it back in the old pc would it boot up fine ?

I noticed that when i turn my PC off (new one) and even turn the power switch off, the mouse is still powered, and lights up when i move it about etc, is this normal ? Also when i switch the PC on, the fans all come on for a second then turn off and then it starts up properly?

Yeah most motherboards have "always on" usb ports now, allows things to charge even if the PC is off etc.. I think you can turn that off too if you want.

Yep the drive will work as ever it did back in the other PC

Yep all worked fine, except vista security warnings, access , private etc every 10 seconds
