About LinkBacksDoes anyone know which hard disks have the highest density platters at the moment? I don't need very much space at all (haven't filled half my 250Gb Samsung yet) so hopefully some nice cheap, small (320Gb?) ones will pop up!

erm well theres the 320GB platter ones..
or IIRC toshiba just announced a 400GB platter 2.5" drive...

I believe they are out there but companies do not include full manufacture codes, only the WD3200AAKS part. Can anyone confirm how to tell if a Hard drive is indeed single or multiple platter.
-particular code for the manfacturer?
-in the specifications somewhere?

Just the code which is why it is so friggin annoying!!
I suppose if etailers knew how much we wanted them then they might make us aware of which they have.
Best bet is to buy the 640GB drives.

is it safe to say All 640GB drives are single platters?
They are not single platters... They have 2x320gb platters... single platter refers to the 1x320gb platter drives... but the 640gb ones all have the good platters that you want
