Does anyone know which hard disks have the highest density platters at the moment? I don't need very much space at all (haven't filled half my 250Gb Samsung yet) so hopefully some nice cheap, small (320Gb?) ones will pop up!

I've not seen any WD single platters yet.
Either that or get the 640GB's. That way you will know for sure
If the toshiba one you are talking about is this

It's a laptop drive and is 2 platters.
That's great, exactly what I was looking for!

That's great guys, I think I'll go with the WD since I've never owned a WD before
When we find out where to get them I may join you in that. Replace my other two 320's with them

Hi..
Can anyone confirm how to tell if a Hard drive is indeed single or multiple platter.
-particular code for the manfacturer?
-in the specifications somewhere?
Can't find the answer to this one!
Just the code which is why it is so friggin annoying!!
I suppose if etailers knew how much we wanted them then they might make us aware of which they have.
Best bet is to buy the 640GB drives.
Thanks Mike,
is it safe to say All 640GB drives are single platters?
