Help Needed

As some may know I am moving my PC internals to a new case.

However I have ran into a problem that I cant solve.

I cant get the motherboard out of the old case! The reason for is, one of the screws at the back of the motherboard won't come out and its one of two things.

The stand off it is screwed into is just spinning in its hole and won't come out or the screw itself is spinning within the stand off.

Where the screw is I cant get anything behind the motherboard to hold onto the stand off while I un-screw it.

Has anyone got ANY suggestions on how I could get the screw out?!

You could try to drill out the old stand off from behind the mobo tray (a bit of a scary job !) or dremel around the offending stand off (also scary !!) Both would be a bit destructive if you're keeping the case mind !

Not keeping the case but dont have a dremel and dont feel comfortable trying to drill it out :S

Ye - i'd feel the same but i cant think how else you could do it - theres pro bolt extractors but i think you'd have to drill into the screw from the front then to fit the extracter which is also a bit intimidating !

Probably safer from the back if you go really carefully and slowly with a drill ?

GOT IT!

I just used a pair on needle nose plyers and used one part of the nose and very gently poked the back of the stand off and out it all popped!

have you tried screwing in back in tightly, then unscrewing, might fasten the stand-off back in place then just unscrew the screw normally..


or you could just keep unscrewing and screwing it until the thread gets shredded on the case where the standoff screws in, then it will just come straight out.. pair of pliers onto the standoff then unscrew the screw = job done..

Need yet more help :@

Have come to turn PC on today and it won't.

The light on the motherboard comes on, I hit the power button, nothing happens, no fans spin, no sounds, nothing, I click the button and nothing happens.

Have checked all connections, all of the connections are secure and firm so I'm stumped.

Any suggestions would be good thanks.

If you have a spare Psu then try this 1st, if not then take everything out except 1 stick of ram and the graphics and try - if that fails try it all outside the case incase your mobo' shorting out somewhere ?

For future reference... you really ought to invest in a (cheap as chips) Screw Extractor Set or two (different sizes)
