Useful test software.......what to use?

I've picked upon a lot of references to certain types of s/ware ,reading amongst the threads. As a newb can anyone suggest some freeware that

1. I can actually get

2. Will help this vertical learning curve I've started on since trying to learn o/c and know what i'm doing! [as opposed to o/c and not know what i was about!]

Obviously the ability to set and reference benchmarks speak for itself....

All help, as always, appreciated.

Prime95 - useful for testing stability using the torture test
memtest86 - memory checker
3DMark2001SE
3DMark2003
mbm5 - for monitoring voltages, temperatures, fanspeed (there are loads of equiv. progs. e.g. Speedfan)

Can someone help us both out and give an address for it plse? Am currently using something called 'PC4 ' for measuring temps. Am missing the MSI 'Corecell' s/ware that came with the mobo. Is this rated by serious players?

And.....reading Big Als post at 10.30ish I'm p/o to find that now I have to factor in PSU power to the equation! Yeah I know, obvious when you think about it..Mines a 'jeantech' 350, which leads me to......

Any body who can help out my o/c attempts on my system I refer you to my previous 2 day old thread on 'Help o/c a Barton xp2600 on MSI kt6 Delta mobo'...[Rod911 I know you're out there m8!!]

If you want to know anything about overclocking, just ask, lots here know a fair amount, and remember google is close by, lots of info there. I would also like to say google is your friend, and patience.

heh, thought of one more essential bit of software i would add for testing purposes would be sisoft sandra (in addition to folding and those mentioned in Buffs post)

Now optimising your PC there are some top guides out there on the internet, and some good software to go with it, winoptimiser suite, cacheman, regcleaner and bootvis off the top of my head, along with win defrag.

Cool, will check them out. Do you rate MSI's Corecell prog? Helps newbs like me possibly? An o/c and monitoring facilty basically.

Oh....Xp Barton 2600 @2.15mhz,512 pc world DDR RAM, MSI KT600 Delta mobo, Geforce MX400 64mb...{i know!} M Audio Delta 44s/c.

I get the feeling decent ram would be needed for serious o/c...assume its pricey.

Yeah, good ram costs, but I found Twinmos to be a sound midle-of-the road performer, but I personally favour Bufallo.

Some other good apps are SpeedFan which I know was mentioned earlier & check out what is on offer at cpuid.com , they produce some handy stuff.

Yep,spot on Nox, it came with the mobo bundle. I lost the cd, and when the old HDD failed, I didn't bother replacing it,just went into bios. But, off work wid de flu, yesterday I found it on MSI site as a d/load. Handy for Newbs I think 'cause it saves you clearing the CMOS when you've gone a step too far.

Me mobo ain't liking any increase in Vcore.Runs at 1.65. When using Core Cell's 'auto' facility, this increases the FSB until it reboots. Got it to 192 FSb, but only runs stable at about 185. Tried a step up in Vcore to 1.675 and it just rebooted. Have'nt tried since - too scared!

Any ideas - would half decent RAm help? Twinmos/Buffalo been suggested?After a g/card and monitor upgrade is this my next upgrade? {this is like my music studio building for the last 15 yrs is'ntit......never ending!! }
