heh i will, one thing i hate is forum spammers which is why i'm hesitant to post here really, since i don't really know much to help anyone hehe.

i jjust realised, my monitor is a 17", and it's served me well...i wont need to upgrade that, will i? cos that's like another £100 =.= will it make my fps fall alot, or be okay?

GTX260 might be a little overkill for a 17" screen, it should handle it easy though.
It will keep you space to buy a new and bigger monitor in the future. If you don't plan on doing so, you might want to look into getting maybe a cheaper graphic card and upgrading some other parts?

Re: Abit of help please =)

Most modern graphics cards are overkill for 17" i'm affraid.

It's down to you to make the decision as to whether you will be getting a new monitor soon and so the high graphics is worth it, or save some money and get something else.

A 9800GT should be about £80/£90 and more than enough for you screen if you deffinatly want to keep it.

hmm, oh noez.i guess that means i'ma have to buy a new monitor, since i want the great graphics, performance, etc, and it should last me a few years yes?

is there a specific size i need to get, to make sure it's not an overkill?

Re: Abit of help please =)

20-22" or 1680 x 1050 resolution is a sort of.. gaming average now as those monitors are very reasoanbly priced, even for good ones.

    Still overkill though I'm affraid.

Really to demand anything from the card you will want 1920 x 1200 resolution monitors which is generally 24"+.

not all bad though, check this thread for some cheapies which are actually very good

Re: Abit of help please =)

oh my...i might need to rethink this ^_^

that 24 monitor is 200 quid, and you say that's the cheaper one....

hmm. i think i might need to talk this over ;p

so if i buy say a 19", then i need to tone down the gfx card - alot.

is there anything else i need to change if i'm changing that?

Re: Abit of help please =)

nope just the graphics card. Tbh at £165 it's pretty good value compared to what most of us have bought for more or less the same price over the past few years lol

If you are happy on your 17" then stick with it for now and just get a cheaper card. I use a 19" widescreen for occasional gaming and movies which it is very good for but I can't stand surfing on it because of the low vertical resolution.. lots of scrolling.

Re: Abit of help please =)

by the £165 you mean the graphics card? cos i cant find a 24" monitor for that price.

but thanks, i'll have a think and update you later ^_^

one question; on scan if i've added one of the daily offers to the basket, eg. the proccy for £108, when tomorrow come will it go up in price?

also, by overkill do you mean the screen will like overload and blow? or?

Re: Abit of help please =)

Overkill just means a lot of unrequired power, like a 500bhp engine for a wheelchair.

And yeah £165 for the 260GTX.

Have a look at 20 - 22" the come in around £120 - £140 for pretty respectable ones

You used to be able to do that with scan but your basket won't save anymore, it will be gone in a few hours. The chips will be on today only every other day anyway so I wouldn't worry about it.

There's nothing dangerous about having a powerful card and a small monitor. It just means that you could have got away with spending less on the graphics card and not notice the difference. A GTX260 might give you 120 frames per second in a game at your screens resolution. A cheaper 9800gt might give you 60fps but your eye wont be able to notice the difference.

It would be like asking a top sprinter to run 100m in 20 seconds. It wont be a problem but someone much less talented could do it just as well. The top sprinter (GTX260) would of course have more potential should a harder task be set later (new monitor to supply with more pixels per second).

lol I was getting quite into that analogy.
