    This Is Getting Ridiculous!!!

ok as you may have noticed i have been having problems resuming from standby on my newly built htpc. I figured this was a driver issue so i tried catalyst drivers 8.5 - 8.8. No luck. I then waited for the latest catalyst drivers which came out on thursday and they didn't solve the problem. I then ordered a 3450 as i figured this should work as many people have this gpu in their htpcs with no problems. i have just recieved the card today, opened it up, installed it and guess what... resuming from standby still leaves me with a black screen with only a mouse cursor which will not move and a dead keyboard which means a hard restart. What good is a htpc that has to be switched on from the case to use, cannot be used to time recordings or otherwise be left constantly on and run up my electricity bill...
This is the specs of the system:
    AMD 4850e CPU
    Abit 780G Motherboard
    Win Nova T-500 Dual Tuner
LG Blu Ray/HD DVD Combo Drive
    Samsung 500GB HDD
That is it... the whole system... anybody have any ideas as to how to solve this or shall i just tear my hair out now and sell the damned thing...
EDIT: Vista Home Premium 32 Bit SP1
    Motherboard Box says BIOS V1.0

Have you checked the power management settings in the Device Manager? I had a problem with freezing coming out of hibernate when the "Allow the computer to turn off this device" setting was ticked on my network adaptor

Also The 'MCE Standby Tool' might help

if it's truly on 10 you might want to see if 12 helps at all (although not a noted fix).

    Re: This Is Getting Ridiculous!!!

I have the exact same problem by the way and my HTPC is almost identical to yours. (Same CPU and motherboard at least). It was working the same no matter the resolution and it was the same through the on board graphics chip, or through an HD3470 graphics card.

I can't try updating anything unfortunately though because it won't even power on today. If I can get it working again though, I'll be able to help with working through this problem hopefully.

I would say it is either the bios or a Motherboard change may help.

    Re: This Is Getting Ridiculous!!!

Have you set the BIOS up to come out of standby in certain scenarios? or are you using Windows setup method under Power Management, those might be conflicting.

In BIOS, check especially what settings are used where there is anything to do with WAKE UP, not familiar with Abit boards as I don't have any.

    Re: This Is Getting Ridiculous!!!

    thanks for the responses guys
In the bios it is set to s3 and is set to wake on lan whilst everything else is disabled such as wake by pcie etc... I'm gonna update the bios to the latest one to see if that helps... I have tried the mcestandby tool but no change... I'll also have a check in windows to see if allow this device to turn off the computer is enabled on anything... seeing as acrobat is also having this problem i am guessing it is a motherboard issue although there aren't any suggestions of this in a quick google search... if i changed motherboards to another 780g wouldn't the only difference be the bios or could it be a fault with the motherboard hardware

    Re: This Is Getting Ridiculous!!!

The only thing I can say about mine is that neither the graphics nor BIOS were up to date with the latest, and I also never changed any of the power settings at all, so my guess would be with that too. I wish I could try it but it's died since then so I can't do anything.

One thing I did notice while it was working though, is that if I start some music playing and then switch to TV for a while, and then back to the HTPC, the screen is black as usual, and yet there was music still playing on the HTPC, so I knew it wasn't in standby.

    Re: This Is Getting Ridiculous!!!

I have finally got standby working
Just a BIOS update to the latest one seems to have done the trick
Gonna remove the 3450 now and see if standby still works with onboard and if so
