    Double Download Fee? - Ridiculous

I only just recently ventured into the world of new mobiles, to stay in touch with my love, but I was appawled to find that at the end of the month after downloading 6 games at $5 a pop (Canadian) plus a 50cent download fee, that I was also charged for the amount of kilobytes I had downloaded buying those games, and my bill was shot up to well over $100. Is it legal for them to not notify you of a double download fee? Does this happen with most providers?

My provider is Rogers Wireless, and my phone is the Motorolla V551 Camera Phone

I don't mean to complain, or be a nag, but I just figured the topic of hidden fees for services would make a good topic for discussion.

    I'm just a poo disturber I guess

did you download them from your privider, or from another vendor?

If it's from somewhere else, it's not really a surprise. It's the mobile equivelant of having to pay per minute for dialup internet and also having to pau for download content. You are still paying twice, it's just you were charged by the kb instead of minute.

don't forget you can often buy them online and transfer them via your PC

this way you keep your license even if your phone gets nicked/lost/broken.

That may be the case, but it's sad that I wasn't even notified by either my provider, or by JamDat games (the publisher of games offered by Rogers) I am going to have some words with them, but their support service is useless.

I guess I just learned a lesson, but I don't want them to get away with not notifying customers of the charge.

I don't know what the deal is with that kind of thing is in the US/Canada, but in the UK if all the charges aren't detailed in your contract then you would have a come back to your operator, but i would doubt there isn't something in the small print telling you there will be charges. Then it is up to you to read them. Also i don't think it is the responsability of the games provider to tell you this.

Ah, the one area where something is cheaper and better in the UK, mobile phone services.

Unfortunately though, what they're doing sounds both normal and legal. I very much doubt you'll be compensated in any way, sorry.

I hadn't assumed I would be compensated, but I can't even believe the shoddy technical support lines they have. I have had very little luck in even getting an explaination of my bill.

I do know one thing though, I won't be downloading anything for a while.

As funkstar says, did you download them from your privider, or from another vendor?
Although it doesn't matter in terms of data content, you may be shown some goodwill by your provider if it was purchased through them.
A friend on mine (admittedly in the UK) managed to claim £10 worth or so from a mobile operator (won't say which one) after enough complaining.

Heh, I haven't even been able to contact a real person so far to complain

I think that they were downloaded through my provider, because on the phone it links you to the Rogers Nav1gate page to Download games, but the games have a title screen which shows the name Jamdat Mobile, so I'm not exactly sure.
