Keyboard?

Anyone got a good recommendation for a keyboard? im looking to replace an ageing logitech ex90 and am looking for something cheap that is durable with hotkeys(media etc), possible? if not what are your recommendations for a decent gaming keyboard, saitek cyborg keyboard good? got the mouse and love it, keyboard cheaper than g15 to.

If you want something a bit cheaper I have the Saitek Eclipse II which I really like.

It may be getting a little long in the tooth now, but it's still a damned good keyboard

have the reclusa too, excellent keyboard, media keys are excellent though there not etched and my "forward" music key has slowly lost its opacity

but best keyboard for 35 by far !

Any good points for gaming? havent really noticed anything on these gaming keyboards that help , if its good as a normal keyboard to then great i may buy it tomorrow morning.

I am currently typing my PhD thesis on my Reclusa and I am happy with it as a normal keyboard only thing to watch out for is it is quite long (or maybe that should be wide?) ~53cm at its widest point not sure how that compares to other gaming keyboards but its quite a bit wider than a normal keyboard.

The backlight is bright enough but not blinding in the dark and the 2 usb ports allow you to plug stuff in easily if your case ports are to far away. Overall has the microsoft look and definetly feels like a quality product, been using mine for just over a year now and have had no complaints so far and can't see that changing any time soon. The only thing you may find annoying is that the keys actually make a noise when you press them, this doesn't bother me as it lets me know that I have pressed the key and they have a very positive feel (you know that the key has been pressed and it is ready for you to press it again straight away).

Sounds good but is that sound loud? My current ex90 is pretty loud which is annoying when typing at night and when im in calls as they can hear it xD. Just gunna get a tape measure to see how big that is compared to my keyboard(is that 53cm <---> that way?)

edit: just noticed your post recommending the saitek keyboard, looks good but does it have any like shortcut keys for game commands? not a massive thing but could help me chose. Its at PC world for &#163;40 but pricematch against ebuyer but they dont do the second one , anyone know a store that sells it cheap?. Really feel the saitek is the one as the price is great(&#163;25~), anyone care to take some pics of their keyboard? just to see if i like it or not, are the keys really close together? i prefer gaps and stuff lol.

At the risk of being shot down in flames...

Dell AT102W, aka "093GDJ".

It's crammed full of Alps keyswitches (read: proper microswitches, not the "membrane" type things that seem to be popular these days), is heavy, built like a tank, and makes a lovely typewriter-like *clack* as the keys go down. If you've heard of the IBM Model M, the AT102W is probably the next best thing. Wouldn't trade mine for anything, but they're probably more use for typing/programming than gaming...

Well after consideration i think i dont need a new keyboard, are those wolfking ones any good? http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=579940 they look like they are, i cant stand using the shift key on my current keyboard as its to far away and hurts my finger a bit after time so since this is closer it would be best i think, any ideas?

edit: was just about to buy the keyboard(saitek one) but noticed the pictures showed an american version , i want the shift key close to the a key (where the \ key is at) but thats only in the american version, this sucks >.<.

Those things are a gimmick IMO, but it's your money. It's probably best if you try them out first though to see which is most comfortable.

yeh i would like to find a shop that shows them , pcworld is the closest to a computer store but they dont stock anything like that apart from 1 g15 which is to expensive. Im stumped , i want a new keyboard that is good for gaming but good for typing lol but its not going to happen.

Really just want the gaming keyboards to be designed differently in terms of the shift key but oh well. Who thinks i should get the eclipse? im gunna go for it if its recommended more and how durable is it?

Well I have one, and am completely happy with it. I'd say it's fairly durable given that I've dropped it twice and and been bashing it against all sorts of things for the last month due my having it perched on my knees.

what is the wrist wrest made of? and are the keys quiet when pressed? fed up wit my current one as its very loud and annoys people on skype xD.

The wrist rest is made of plasticand the keys are fairly quiet; certainly much quieter than the Dell Riverdance tribute ones.
