Unhappy Help with sata drive please

Hi there i dont know weather anyone can help but i have built myself a pc and i am trying to install a sata drive with no joy.I have a fp-in9 motherboard in which i have plugged in the sata cable to the drive and also plugged in the power cable and it recognises the drive in the bios set up but when i go to install a o/s it wont let me.Its either the hard drive is faulty or do i need to set the raid drivers which i dont know how to do.I thought it would be plug and play but obviously not.If anyone can help me with setting the raid drivers it would be a great help.
    many thanks Toby

right click on the my computer icon, go to manage. Click on disk management in the pane on the left. Your new hdd should show up there as unformatted, right click on the volume and click on format.

threre shouldn't be any need for raid drivers unless you're going to run a raid setup.

this might help if you have any problems: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...10b281033.mspx

Re: Help with sata drive please

or if you have taken your old HDD with OS out to install the new you should be able to format the new HDD as part of the OS install.
You don't need RAID drivers for a single HDD.

When you say that it won't let you install an OS what exactly is happening?

Re: Help with sata drive please

Hi Belbody, welcome to the forums.

Do you have access to a connected computer If not your local library usually has internet connected pc's you can use), if you do you download an iso file of ubuntu, or another live version of linux, with this burned to a cd/dvd you can boot an OS from the dvd drive.

When you have booted, you then look for you hd in Unutu you left click Places, then choose computer, this will tell you what drive are available for use, if you can see you new hd, try to access it. it may tell you that there is no OS or that it needs formatting.

After this you should know wether the hd is doa or not.

    Ubuntu homepage http://www.ubuntu.com/

    Hope this helps.

Re: Help with sata drive please

    Hi BellBoddy,

Not sure if this will help!
You say its being picked up in BIOS if so, as long as its not grinding or making funny pinging sound I would guess the drive could be ok. I have had some Asus motherboards with SATA connections but before you can get the drive to work, had to take a file from the motherboard disc (SATA Raid driver) which had to be copied to floppy.

As you initialise the install of your OS (I assume Windows of some sort?) it says at the bottom of the screen press F6 to enter RAID and SCSI setup (or something their abouts!), press F6 and follow on screen instructions and load driver from floppy!

P.S you can even use a USB drive if your BIOS can be set to find such devices, if you have no floppy installed.
    Higgs.....out!
