Could you give me an explanation + a solution?

    hey,

    yeah i'm back again >_<

uhm, basically, i sent off my 'faulty' psu to scan, they tested it, said it wasn't faulty, and so i had to pay to get it back.

so i get it back, i try it, and it works. but this is without changing ANYTHING....same plug from the main, same leads onto the mb, and with the same other components. how o_O is there/would they have have changed the psu to a working one without telling me? i know they probably wouldn't since you know, it's scan, but i can't see any other way it would work....

well that's the explanation.....now could you help me here >_<

trying to install vista 64 bit ultimate edition, but what happens is i get an error saying 'required A required CD/DVD device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD or USB flash drive, please insert it now.

Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step.
    ' <-- picture of it: http://www.mydigitallife.info/wp-con...-in-vmware.jpg

....this is after it boots from the cd, installs the files or whatever, and then just gets stuck. i'm looking round the net for solutions to this problem, but they all confuse me so much ;x

people said abuot changing it from master to slave drive? or should i just try a different dvd drive? or some other things....but i trust you guys most ^_- what you think?

    Thanks

The is no way that Scan would have charged you and sent you a replacement it would be bad for business and Scan pride themselves on their customer service.

As to your Vista problem, sorry no idea

Possibly there's some loose wire that fell back into place when transported. If so you may get a repetition at some point in the future, but hopefully not.

What you describe would occur if you were trying to set up a RAID. Have you got the right SATA setting in BIOS (IDE if not RAID) or are you actually trying to set up a RAID?

Re: Could you give me an explanation + a solution?

SATA hdds can actually be a pain sometimes with Vista.

Go into BIOS and change the hdd from ACHI to IDE mode. This will probably cure the problem straight away. If it doesn't, try using a different SATA connector - often you'll have ones with different colours depending on what controller they are plugged into - try a different colour to the current one.

is that easy to do kalniel?

also, with this 'raiding'...i've got to admit, i have no idea what raiding is, so i guess i'm not doing it ;x can someone explain this bit?

and changing the hdd from achi to ide, does that mean i gotta then put it into the ide port, or is that just a label kinda term? only got 1 ide port

Next time take a photo of it so you know the serial number then you know if it comes back if
its the same one or not.

I'm assuming he means to go into the BIOS to change a setting, not actually a physical change.

I'm thinking the good kicking and throwing City-Link must have given your PSU on it's way home has got it into shape and working

Like the others have said always take note of the serial number when RMA'ing.
As for the AHCI option, it's an easy setting in the BIOS usually on the first page of the ASUS boards.

Re: Could you give me an explanation + a solution?

Oh and RAID http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID is basically a way of setting up multiple hard drives to act as one, the data gets written across multiple hard drives in differnt ways depending on the raid type (the number after it eg raid 1 or raid 0) so you can improve disk access+write time and/or provide redundance if one drive fails.

If you're only useing one hard drive with a single partition then No your not useing raid, however that wouldn't stop windows looking for one.
Changeing the BIOS setting from AHCI to IDE is basically going to tell windows "No there isn't a raid array so stop looking for one!"

Sorry I didn't explain very well. What we are actually doing is changing the sata mode in the BIOS to IDE rather than AHCI. That means that while you still connect over the sata cable/port, the computer treats the hard drive as a single hard drive in IDE mode. This is still using full sata speed though, so there are no performance consequences, it just means you will not be using RAID (special multiple disk modes).

To do the change just enter your BIOS on start up (by pressing something like F2), navigate to whichever screen controls hard disks and find the option for SATA mode - turn any options you can to IDE (possibly called 'legacy' as well). Save and exit and you're done - no need to open up the case or anything.

The other change I mentioned, changing connectors, would require you to open the case (with the computer off) and look where your hard drive is plugged into the motherboard, and just moving that connection to a different coloured connector of the same type.

Re: Could you give me an explanation + a solution?

    hmm....

well when i checked in bios, sata was already on IDE, not ACHI (tere was also the option of raid).

i tried achi to be sure......but now even after changing back the computer turns off after/in loading the windows files? any idea whats going on ;x

and so no, the bios didn't solve it, so maybe change sata connectors will :? just move it to another porty thing?

Re: Could you give me an explanation + a solution?

Worth a try - specifically if you can move it to a different coloured port as that's most likely to be on a different SATA controller which might have been the problem (or might not). The problem I saw on a friends computer was related to a jmicron sata2 controller and moving to a different coloured slot fixed it.
