    Question first time overclocker!!!

ok all you brainy folk need some help here as its my first time overclocking and would like some pointers.

    here are my stats

AMD (thororoughbred) Athlon xp 2400+@2000 FSB133 bus speed 266
    ABIT AT7-MAX2 VIA KT400 Motherboard
    Corsair 512MB DDR PC2700 2-3-2-6
    ATI RADEON 8500

dunno if that helps a lot. so where do i start and what kind of speeds could i achieve?im not looking for anything serious.

Lower the multipler to 9.5 or 10. Then put the FSB:RAM speed to 1:1. Then raise the FSB to as far as it would go, if you need to put an extra 0.1v through it, this is a safe amount, but any more could be more likely to shorten the life in the long term. I would expect that RAM to go quite far. An increase of 5fsb each time is probably a good idea. When you get to a point where it isnt stable or it doesnt boot, either back off to the last stable speed and try to increase is 1fsb incriments, or increase the voltage again.

Once you have found your max FSB, try increase the multipler. This will probably require you to put more voltage through the core to keep it stable. A total increase of .25v is sensible, but the smaller the better and voltage adds to temperature.

    Hope thats of use.

you could start by seeing if you can raise your cpu fsb as you have pc2700 mem which is 166 fsb whereas your cpu is at 133 fsb if your stats are correct
what is your stock graphic card speeds as at the minute im using my daughters pc which has a 8500 le which is a cut down version of the 8500 and this clocks to 311/374 from 249/249

Try lowering the multipler, even if it doesnt boot try raising the multipler. Just generally play about.
