Strike,
if i cant get into safe mode with either way how can i load these critical drivers etc?
Duds
Only way is a fresh install, Ive never tried the repair option on the XP setup disc with this kind of fault, so dont know if that would work at all, but could be worth a try
Thx matey, well the repair just seems the same as a fresh instal anyway lol although i havent formatted the HDD yet so ill end up with 2 copies of xp on it lol. Still ill sort that later.

Think ive cracked it matey, managed to get it to boot. Just need to reactivate windows. Thx for the help
Duds
Glad its all sorted dude
How did you get it to boot?
Used the xp boot cd and chose to re-instal windows. The following options gave me a choice to repair windows xp rather than a full instal so i chose that and it basically re-installed the drivers etc i guess .Once finished it simply boot up into the activate windows screen. Luckily the internet connection was still working and its all reactivated and registered. Problem is the 2.6ghx cpu only registers at 1.9ghz so i thought i would change the FSB to see if that helped but i put it to high and now the pc wont boot again lol. It brings up a black screen asking fora flppy disk or something. Im guessing i can just take the cmos battery out for a bit and replace it which should erstore the defaults? At least i hope so otherwise im stuffed lol
Duds
yeah, try resetting the cmos, and failing that, i think try a format and a full fresh install
unless anyone else has any ideas?
