Nah wouldn't swap the old stuff into the P182 really. You can just take the mobo off with the cooler on though thats fine.

The 520W is more than enough for that setup. Even with the i7 it will probably only use about 300W.

[QUOTE=Kerandran;1592754]I was told that for the 9800GT the HX520W was not sufficient power.
Well it does not harm to have a better PSU especially for future improvements.

You said it, "future improvements". I'm only using 1 GTX 280 at the mo, was going to get 2 but going to wait for these new 55 nm versions. I defenately want at least 2 (sli) as they scale really well with X58 mobos, you might want to do as well so stick the corsair 1000W in their lol

This is poor advice IMHO. An HX520 is more than enough for a 9800GT and even much higher.

If and when you decide you want triple 280s then you'll be spending so much that spending a little extra on a PSU/case and selling your old one's won't really be significant.

Re: Can an Antec P182 case house a Corsair HX1000W PSU?

The only reason i'm saying put the 1000w in their so that its ready instead of changing it later on, it took me ages trying to hide every cable and make it as neat and tidy as possible inside the case, thats why it should be in their from the start.

I suppose you could use the lower psu if you dont plan on getting 2 or more high end cards, but i know i'll be getting 2 (not 3 pointless imo) high end cards, thats why i put an 850W from the start.

    Does that make sense?

Sure, there's certainly a cost associated with your time/effort in building the thing, but that's getting highly speculative. Might as well get a full tower case to allow for future expansion in other areas as well

I had a full size tower years ago, it was up to my waist (exaggerate). I'll never one get again.

Here's some more pictures of my build with an Antec P182.

Re: Can an Antec P182 case house a Corsair HX1000W PSU?

    Point 1:
I have contacted Scan.co.uk first thing this morning, to try to modify my purchase in order to get another case, but it was not possible to do so, as I was told that because I had done the order by telephone, the transaction was secured and locked. Therefore it could not be modified (even thought Scan had not yet shipped the equipment). The initial order’s parcel was secured and ready to be shipped.

    I found that odd!

Anyway I asked Scan, if, I apply the modifications / solutions that were suggested to me by the Hexus community, would be possible and whether these would void the case warranty, and Scan sales team responded that this will not void the warranty as this is what they themselves do when fitting a larger PSU in the Antec P182 cases.

Basically scan confirmed that I should remove the bottom fan of the case and the cage that hold the PSU., Therefore, it looks like after all, I will have to dabble with the case. I may come back to the community for assistance on this.

    Point 2:
It is not though the Hexus community that I was advised in buying another PSU. The story is different: I was updating my system that used an Antec 480 True power feeding a system that had an NVidia 6600 card in, to a system with an NVidia 8800gts. So I swapped my existing Corsair HX520W into the old system with the updated card (hence evga 8800 GTS), and got myself another graphics card with Gainward 9800GT. I was aware that the Corsair HX1000W was too much for the newer card, but I did not know that the HX520W would have been sufficient for the 9800GT. Well one learns with ones mistakes.

    Point 3:
The old system had become unmanageable and I had to reinstall the OS in excess of 10 time loosing some much needed multiple software licences. I even tried reparing the OS several times. But the Windows XP patches kept corrupting the system after a while. I would not like to get into the details as that system has caused me way too much grief. To the solution was to get myself a newer system and pass my current system on to my partner. Salvaging just the PSU and graphics card.

    That is the full story.

Re: Can an Antec P182 case house a Corsair HX1000W PSU?

I learned the hard way about power supply requirements myself. Beginning of the year I bought a Antec Truepower Trio 650W for my 8800GT and Q6600, and the system uses 200W under full load. Even if I had a second graphics card in there, the PSU is overkill. On the plus side, the fan ramps up from 800 rpm at idle to 815 rpm under load .

Re: Can an Antec P182 case house a Corsair HX1000W PSU?

I have followed the advice of StaffsMike, and fitted the Corsair HX520W PSU in the Antec P182 case, without taking out the fan at the bottom of the case. True, this was a very tight fit, but it worked.
Also as mentioned by someone else here, one of the PSU screws would not fit properly because of a mi- aligned rubber seal in the PSU compartment, so I had to use another screw attachment. The system is now fully built.
