    Re: Q6600 > q9650

    As other people have said, try and stablise the board or get a new one, blowing ~£230 on a Q9650 isn't worth it (in my humble opinion), getting a stable OC out of your G0 Q6600 will be just as good. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

    It's a bit deceptive but after reading the post, I see it as as Q6600 to Q9650.

    Like Q6600 --> Q9650 but with [--] chopped off.

    Re: Q6600 > q9650

    Ok guys point taken sticking with this set up as I can't be arsed removing the board, cpu + Thermaltake V1 Heatink. So just did the old battery out of the motherboard trick and the FSB settings are being taken into account again so back to sitting @3.1ghz. Just pees me off that Gigabyte have not managed to fix this "bug" for this board that leaves users hoping that the overclock has stuck everytime the machine is restarted ... luckily I don't restart too often.

    Re: Q6600 > q9650

    Have you replaced your CMOS battery with a new one BTW?? My computer has some issues too and when I replaced the battery it worked fine!

    Supposedly there maybe a new F13 BIOS out:

    Re: Q6600 > q9650

    No haven't replaced the battery but from what I can tell from other people who have had the same problem (FSB settings being ignored) it won't make a blind bit of difference.
    Latest Bios are F12E and that is a Beta Build - I am running F12D but don't see them fixing this problem after so long.

    thanks for your time anyway.

    Re: Q6600 > q9650

    No I will stick with this Q6600 @3.1ghz as it is rock solid (when the motherboard aint playing silly buggers) and my video encoding in convertx is flying along at 20 mins to encode a 2 hr+ movie at highest quality.

    Will probably miss out the i7 fellows as well as I don't fancy paying £200 on a motherboard to go with an overpiced Intel CPU ... sometimes these upgrades are all about bragging rights methinks.

    That upgrade isnt worth it tbh.

    Benefit = very small, if noticeable.
