My Build --- Work In Progress To Be Updated.

    Hi all,

im planing to build a new HTPC/GAMING/MEDIA HUB - (MUST BE NEAR SILENT) to be plugged in to a Panasonic LCD TV.....

I need to save some money in the next few months.. so i thought before i pull the strings back the last treat would be build my system.

ive been reading lots of threads and I've deceiced on the core backbone of the system... case, mobo, PSU...

i havnt finalized the the cpu and gpu yet (lets just say its more likey to be a ati and amd!!)

anyways i thought document my build (with images as i buy bit by bit)... so this is my post to say check this space

    the build....

    MOBO
    ASUS M3A78-EM 780G Socket AM2+ mATX
    £60.00
    CASE
    Antec Mini P180 Black MATX
    £45.00
    PSU
    Enermax Modu82+ 425W Modular PSU
    £55.55

gonna get that on order tonight

    and maybe 4gb of ram.

not 100% on what cpu i want yet... was considering the cheaper AMD Athlon X2 7850 2.8GHz or a AM3 not sure...

the beauty of it is AMD has really made building a system appealing im really impressed with the AMD2+ idea.... I cud always swap out the cpu at a later date if needed

im gonna get the GPU last as the board as graphics on board.. plus i have a xbox 360 so im no rush for games but i am keen on the idea very soon.

anyways i will bump this msg as i go long and may ask for opinion on the final config...

    watch this space.

I would also check the Scan Today Only webpage for special offers:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx

You are eligible for free postage from Scan.

The Phenom II X3 710 is under £100 on the Today Only webpage and would be a good choice.

Saphire 4670 passive graphics card. Will alow playing of older games and easily decode dvd and stuff with HDMI built on so no dongle needed.

I have the 4650 in my HTPC and its superb

the p180 mini would house a 2x pci card wont it? is the psu enough to handle it...

i dont mind spending up to around 120 on a gpu.. i guess thats the hd 4870 512 kinda range? i know there not the quietest but really i want the most bang for my buck... this is really going to be my main system (i also have a macbook but i dont like leaving it on to download etc...)

the mini p180 has 4 slots on the back (PCI slots) but let me warn you its HUGE! as big as most mid towers for full ATX.

    check out my case.

i was looking at the silverstone tj08 but then i seen this p180 mini at that bargain price..

you can get the silver one for about £58... but the black one is like £70 sooo annoying.

Depends what games you play, the HD4670 would do the job fine for lightweight stuff, but a 4770 can easily be made passive and is MUCH more powerful.

If you think that the stock fan may be too loud, then factor in an Accelero S1 and a 120mm fan into your cost.

An Accelero won't need a fan on it for a card that lightweight.

I was going to point that out but decided it'd be too pedantic...

Will you be transcoding on that pc? Quad core might be a good investment, or a triple core, both offer significant increases over dual core now that alot of applications support them.
