    @ burble

Might be an idea to keep an eye on this post at the development forum when you set yours up.

"Managing a USB hard drive on the Plug."
    http://plugcomputer.org/plugforum/index.php?topic=485.0

Apparently the USB socket takes a few seconds during bootup to go through it's self checking state and initialize itself and some External USB drives are not being seen as the kernel has already booted instead of waiting for the USB int string.

The retail OEM version has now been pushed back to September and thats for the USA version and not the European version that comes out after so i may endup getting Development Kit myself.

    @ burble

Hi, I've been interested in getting something like this for my dad to get his backup drive onto the network without his pc being left on 24/7

Could you let me/us know how it works out. Particularly interested in network transfer speeds and how easy it is to set up an UPNP-AV server.

    Cheers

No problem, I'll update the thread when mine has arrived. Is there any particular uPNP server you're interested in? I used to use TwonkyVision so have that to hand.

Actually that would be perfect, its what I'm running on my synology 106j. I find it more reliable then the built in one

Ok, I'll have a go at setting up Twonky and see how it fares.

As far as network speeds go, I'll probably just use iperf to get some figures but they should be quite useful.

I'm looking to see if it could be used as a small astrisk box - or using a USB monitor as a low spec web browser....

need to buy one to test it all out.....

any views on USB video or anyone tied it on the plug yet?

i've just read through the thread, Fit-PC looks interesting, i mean, its almost a popcorn hour alternative as long as you're running over HDMI with external storage

    any reasons why not?

No sign of mine yet. I'm going to see if I can cancel the order as I've resurrected my Mac Mini so don't need the SheevaPlug any longer.
