Re: SheevaPlug - 1.2Ghz computer in a plug

I like the look of the Guru Server Plus one it has 2 gigabit ports on it 82 quid, that thing is saying firewall all over it! As someone already pointed out, great for a print server as well, I think I paid 100 quid for my dlink print server and the problem with print servers these days is supporting different USB printers. I am so tempted!

Actually it looks like the shipping isn't that badly priced, don't forget they add VAT on to ship to the uk, so its being delivered for about a tenner. UPS build in the customs charges into the shipping price (normally).

There appears now to be a UK reseller for them Newit. I notice this is an old tread brought back from the dead, does anyone have any experience of them now?

Newit are overpriced you may aswell import it or just build a Atom server for the money.

    In my opinion

My atom server cost me 300 quid and is a lot bigger. Newitt are opnly a tenner more expensive after the UPS delivery option is selected, but I think I might wait to see what version 3 is like it appears to have a better processor, and better support for standard distros.

Yeah so much for it being a $60 computer to rival the NAS market.

Re: SheevaPlug - 1.2Ghz computer in a plug

Sheeva plug 3 is not available yet - neither is the 2Ghz processor. This stuff is looking like end of 2010 from the dev grapevine.

As for Newit. having import taxation and fees from fed ex your actually cheaper buying from newit. The guys know the product and will give you a lot more help than you'll get from the US. New IT alo have a good amount of stock in the UK.

Ionics have a wide range of nice looking devices but none are available and are not likley to make it to europe due to the fact they cant ROHS and CE the product currently.

IF anyone can build an atom based machine for less I'd doubt it's quality and would cost more to operate than a Plug in power..

Sorry missed that post oolon I did a quick search for guruplug but didn't find anything so I posted. Any ideas if m0n0wall/pfSense/Smoothwall etc are planning to support ARM soon? This would make a great platform for them to run on.
