AMD X2 4200+ as always on server

I have a Intel P4 2.4GHz on a Abit IT7-Max2 v2.0 that's been running Windows XP for about 6 years and hosts a Windows 2003 server (VMWare) in my SOHO.

I've not been able to get more RAM (Cheaply) for it, and its struggling at only 1GB.

I have however got a AMD X2 4200+ that I no longer use and is probably much faster and has 2GB RAM. When I have ran this system in the past it did generate quite a bit off heat, but that could have been from heavy gaming and the nVidia 6800GT card. Would this system be fine running 24/7 as a SOHO server with a few VMs on?

    cheers

yes, and probably not as bad as the heat from the old P4!

Should be cheaper and cooler to run. Can't see a reason not to change it over...

i use a x2 4800 as a file server if your worried about heat
you could try one of these
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Xigma...T-D1284-cooler
    they work for me
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
