    Problems with new I5 Build

Hi, I am building a new PC and I keep getting BSOD's usually at the expanding windows files part of the installation (I've tried both Windows 7 RC and Vista Discs, both 64bit). Below are just some of the different BSOD's and other errors.

    • 0x0000001E
    • MEMORY_MANAGEMENT 0x0000001A
    • 0x0000007F
    • IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL 0x0000000A
    • 0x8000FFFF

I have tried a memory test for 3 hours with no problems and tried running with just one of the RAM sticks (alternatively). It also seems to crash upon booting linux live CD's and I have also tried installing windows 7 from a memory stick to rule out the DVD being a problem. All connections in the PC have been checked and nothing is loose.

This is the Spec of the machine:
    • Core I5-750
    • MSI P55-GD65
    • XFX GTX275 GPU
    • 2x2GB Corsair XMS3 1333MHz
    • Seagate 1TB SATA
    • Corsair VX550

Thank you for any help, Matt.

I have just tested with a different hard drive and it comes up with the same errors.

Have you had a look at the temperature of your CPU in the BIOS? Is it seated properly with thermal paste properly applied?

The current idle temperature is around 32-34 degrees. Also the voltages for the PSU are 1.92V 3.376V, 5.045V, 12.144V

Re: Problems with new I5 Build

I may have mis-read your initial post but have you tried installing windows with just 1 stick of RAM in DIMM one? This is the black one nearest the CPU.

Also, is the 8-pin power cable plugged into the motherboard?

Tried changing the PCI-e slot that the GFX card is in?

Tried just plugging in the essential only items? ie HDD that OS is going to and a single optical drive?

Checked for any loose pins that maybe shorting out the board anywhere? Correct placement of stadoffs/motherboard screws?

Re: Problems with new I5 Build

This is my freinds pc so i'll have to test some of the things mentioned when i go round tomorrow.

When i tried the one stick of RAM i tried it in the 2nd slot away from the CPU so I'll try the first tomorrow, if that makes any difference.

The 8pin is in the motherboard however i had to remove the blank blocking 4 pins of the socket.

I'll also try swapping the GPU to the other slot tomorrow.

I don't think anything non-essential was plugged in, the wifi card was removed so all that's installed is hdd, dvd, keyboard and mouse.

Standoffs/screws are in the correct places. I basically checked everything was in firmly however there might be something I can't see.

I have no idea what the voltage is at other than it hasn't been changed from default. Is the default 1.65V?

Thanks for your help, this has been driving me crazy.

<--brainfart with regards to the RAM DIMM slots. second from the CPU is DIMM 1. Definitely needs to be in there to boot.
Hopefully the below picture will paint where the RAM should go.

Is there a spare HDD to try? Could be it's got a few bad sectors?

Re: Problems with new I5 Build

Sounds like a RAM problem to me. Also is your RAM rated to run at 1.65v or less?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Re: Problems with new I5 Build

They are both in the black slots yes, i removed the one furthest away from the cpu to test them individually. The RAM's model number is TW3X4G1333C9A. I can't seem to find the corresponding voltage for this.

I tried a spare SATA HDD of mine which made no difference.

Do you think I should run the memory test for more than 3 hours?

    Thank you All!!!

Set the RAM Voltage to 1.65 and it works flawlessly!

Now if only I knew that before.

    Disable “Spread Spectrum”.

LoL never mind I was looking at other BIOS settings that might have been cuasing the probloms but I see you got it to work now.
