I hadn't checked as I had decided against getting a SSD. If I did get one I'd make damn sure it was the G2 version...

Nope. Except maybe a few prices and what's in stock, and of course, Windows 7 is now out.

True, I had already pre-ordered Win 7, though I'll dual boot with Ubuntu so IT won't matter if the postal service is rubbish...

Hmm, availability for the 5850 isn't awesome. Any reason why the power color one is the only one in stock? Is it different from the others at all?

Nope. Exactly the same. Because of the popularity of the cards, it's hit and miss which one's will be in stock unfortunately.

    Re: £1-1.6k P55 Build - Any Advice?

Got my system up and running. Details are in my profile. It cost almost exactly £1500 in the end.

Had one scary moment where it kept turning itself off after 2 seconds until I realised that these days motherboards need _two_ connections from the PSU... bah! All seems ok apart from my wireless not being able to connect to the router though that didn't work in XP either. Grr.

It's pretty quiet though I can hear the fans running at a low level and the 5850 spins up to a higher (but still reasonable) level when doing anything 3D. I'm very pleased with my monitor; my old photos look revitalised and I've ordered myself Planet Earth on Blu-ray for some awesome HD video. I'm also getting Fallout 3 GOTY edition though I will try not to play it too much until I've done my thesis...

Thanks for the help people. Much appreciated!

    Greg
