Re: 45nm Athlon X2 5000+ which is based on Phenom II available in the UK!

Freezer Pro 64. I'm getting temps of up to 56°C in Prime Blend. More usually about 52-53°C.

To get that I had to swap my 5.25" bezels for a 120mm fan and improvised filter (made out of a frying pan flat sieve cover from Wilkos). Was just over 60°C at 3.1GHz without the mod improvised case mod.

I don't think I'll be buying a better cooler. No point in throwing lots of money at clocking a £36 cpu.

Well I finally got to plug mine in, and am typing on the machine here.

Still at 2.2GHz, but with 3 cores and 6MB of L3. Had to update my BIOS.

My first unlock I asked for all cores, the system didn't boot. After a power off/on it came up saying it was using 3 cores. Happy with that for a 25 quid CPU

This was for our house server, so GHz isn't that important but the L3 will help and dual core is enough.

Edit to add: comes up as C2 stepping, revision RB-C2.

Where did you get the CPU from for £25??

What are the codes on the front of the CPU??

Sorry, typo. Was 35 quid including vat on Today Only from Scan.

Core 3 is stubburn, given up with it.

Upped bus clock to 240MHz, any more than that and my BIOS doesn't seem to be able to maintain 800MHz or under to the RAM and it fails to boot. Perhaps I have something to learn on overclocking on this motherboard.

I have a feeling the ram in the server is the really old slow stuff, so unless I can get a better CPU/RAM ratio it won't get any overclock at all.

I shall probably keep the CPU as a 2.64GHz triple core for the weekend to check it out. When I put my 955BE back in the system I shall get the codes off the chip for you.

Not played with Orthos before, do you expect to only see 2 threads on a 3 core system?

Re: 45nm Athlon X2 5000+ which is based on Phenom II available in the UK!

I put a system together a couple of days ago and could unlock to 3 cores and the 6MB cache.

I could get to 2.8 Ghz did not try any more, did not stress test but put it back 2 stock speed to save power. I tried different core voltage and mem dividers but one core no go.

Still great with the extra cache and will probably be a second PC or a HTPC not sure about space for that but still pleased with the bit extra

The cpu is retail from Scan AG5000 ODGIBOX, £39.

Front of CPU CACVC AC D937FPMW

    Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H AM2+

    2GB DDR2 PC3200

    Gigabyte 4 heatpipe cooler + 120mm Fan

Box says: AD5000ODGIBOX, so one letter different from the one Switchmode has.

The hologram sticker says 9K686202 if that means anything.

Which version of CPUz are you running? Mine comes up as stepping 2, revision C2 running 1.53.1.

Sorry mine is AD as well my mistake.

I should have double checked, I thort you meant the space I had put to differentiate the zero and the "O" .

Re: 45nm Athlon X2 5000+ which is based on Phenom II available in the UK!

Well the experiment went well, I played quite a bit of World of Warcraft which drove all 3 cores at about 50% and no stability problems.

Only did about 15 mins of Orthos, but then it would only drive 2 of the 3 cores so had to play with the core affinity in process manager.

Code from front: CACVC AC 0936BPEW

That is 2009 week 36 isn't it? Would make it a fairly old chip for one that has just turned up on the market.
