What am I missing on this DDR3 ?

Yeah I'm not happy about that G.Skill price jump
I've been waiting for the price of DDR3 to go down, but it seems to be going up atm

Same, Novatech sold the cas7 1600MHz at £73 so I snapped one up

Ok well I've ordered 2x 1gb of their slower pc8500, yes I know, but it's only £13 each stick and it's also supposed to be cas6.

main reason I've gone for this is just so I can get my i5 up and running.
Currently DDR3 prices look like they are only going to go up in the next few months, so there's not much point in me holding out for something good atm.
So cheapest minimum to get me up and running, then hopefully in 6 months the prices will have dropped a little and I'll of saved up enough get something better.

Fair enough, but surely you have to upgrade at SOME point. And what is it with people on hexus not trusting anything that's not in stock! Is it bad luck or something?

No just saying that it's not in stock.
At the same time you do have to beware not in stock prices, it's an old trick that has been used by some websites for a while now.
When something goes out of stock the price gets dropped, when it come back into stock the price goes back up (oh and you cannot order it at the reduced price as it's not in stock)
The reason behind this little tactic is price comparison websites, it rasies them up the rankings.

As to upgradeing, I'm not so sure, I'll probably add more, but the more I've looked at specs and reviews the less benefit I see from better ram.
I'll have to dig out the link but the difference between 1600mhz and 1066mhz both at cas9 in memory benchmarks is big but in games it's around 1fps

It's good stuff but once you add on delivery & vat the price is £80.73

At which point getting the faster 1600mhz is a better buy for the same cost @ £80.49

1.8v so no good for socket 1156
Well from my understanding of memory it'll work but only at JEDEC standards which is 1.5v CAS9 at 1333mhz I think
run it at 1.65v and you might get it down to CAS7 or 8
