mixing gfx cards

could i use a ati 5850 with a MATROX 32MB PCI Express x1 for 4 monitors?

for 3 24inc dells and a 37inc LCD TV.

the mobo only has one x16 slot. the others are only x8.

whould i have problems with this sort of setup when using the desktop? or will it even work?

i did try to find a cheap ati card but cant find any that will fit in an x8.

I thought any will? it just means bandwidth is limited. Is it like the intel boards where there is literally only half a slot?

its got 2 x8 and 1 x4

i have seen some motherboards where they dont have end bits on smaller pcie slots so u can still use full size cards.

But why wouldn't the card fit in the 8x slot? Is it 8x electrical or physical?

its physical the x8 slots are half the size of the x16 and the x4 is the smallest one.

i think the last one whould be best as its ati has hdmi and its the cheapist i have found
