Which CPU should I get?

Ok, i just retracted my order from scan (As mentioned in previous posts I had ordered a C2D 3.06GhZ)

I have a £100 budget, What CPU should I get? It has to be LGA775.

The reason im looking for a new one is I heard WoW is CPU intensive and im running a P4 3.06 and I want a bit of extra fps out of my game.

Fastest LGA775 CPU for under £100 is likely to be the Core 2 Duo E7600 that you've got listed in your system already? I assume that's actually the one you've cancelled the order for and it isn't in your system?

Not sure what else you expect for £100, tbh - Intel are not the bang-for-buck choice at the minute...

Yeah I added it and then cancelled the order because i wanted to see if I could get anything better.

So the E7600 is the best I could get for 100?

From a quick inspection it looks like it, yeah. But if you're on a P4 3.06 at the minute the E7600 will be quicker, because C2D had *huge* clock for clock performance improvements over P4.

The other option, if you're up for trying some extreme overclocking, is to save a bag of cash and get a Celeron E3300. It's reputed run cool, with very low power draw, and hence to overclock like a bar steward. Also, I should imagine that a 2.5GHz C2D based Celeron would probably be at least equal to your P4 at stock speed, so you shouldn't be losing anything by trying.

The only thing I will say is check that your motherboard will take C2D CPUs - some 775 chipsets are not compatible with some 775 processors...

Checked this before I even though of upgrading
