    Recommend a network printer ?

For many years I have had a number of Canon inkjets and they have been reliable good quality printers. However, with the growth of the family network I am now looking for a colour printer for the home that has it's own printserver.
The problem isn't that we're doing a lot of volume, it's just that I don't want to have to boot the desktop everytime there's some homework to be done. I'd like some small machine (wither wired or not) that they can just turn on, and print to immediately.

    Can anyone recommend anything ?

    TIA

Don't like inkjets or bubble jets myself due to the high running costs but if you are in the market for one the Epson Stylus wireless range gets good reviews.

Have a look at this one for example. Just a smidgen over fifty quid as well.

We need colour for the school projects you see, hence the bubblejet. A colour laser would be tres expensif, non ?

A colour laser is more expensive and the cartridges are dearer but the volume is much greater so the cost per print is much lower.

I have a HP D7460 printer. Its inkjet and has usb, wireless, ethernet port & bluetooth for communications.
Bluetooth is fantastic print directly from phone or laptop/pc with bluetooth.
Integrated card reader and touch screen display so pics can be printed directly from mem cards (also show up on network as hdd's)
Print quality is fantastic and fast enough. And it has its own web server. Ticks all your boxes.

I buy my inks from www.inkclub.ie only downside is the printer wont recognise refilled/spurious cartridges.

    Hope that helps.

Re: Recommend a network printer ?

Got a brilliant inkjet at home, the HP J6410. It's double sided, scans and copies with automatic document feeder (faxes as well if I wanted to), can do borderless printing if required - it ticked all the boxes, and came in just under £100 direct from HP. I believe it's even cheaper now. Pair of genuine HP cartridges for it are £35 from an Amazon marketplace reseller.

At work, I've just bought an HP laserjet, a CP2025n. It cost about £250 after an HP rebate program, and each cartridge is around £80 from memory. So it's a heck of a lot more expensive, but it all depends how much printing you're going to do with it.

At the end of the day, all the CP2025n does is print - that's it (the 2025dn does duplex but is more pricey to match). My J6410 at home will do everything, and would cost about a third of the price. And you could buy a full set of inkjet cartridges for £35, as opposed to £300 for the laserjet.

I guess it all depends on volume.

If you have a colour printer you are happy with, why not get a stand alone printer server? D-link do a range

    http://www.dlink.co.uk/cs/Satellite?...GB%2FDLWrapper

I think edimax do some as well.

I think you're right. Depending on cost, of course.

EDIT; Those DLink look great. Only £40 compared to £100+

Re: Recommend a network printer ?

Phage, I bought the canon pixma 620 which is all in one colour inkjet and has print server built in. I just either use the wireless or have it connected to the router(both, cant remember if its connected to the router wirelessly!) and it works fine on my dads laptop/sisters/both my desktop pc's flawlessly .
edit: think we got it for like £50 or £60 from retailer, comet? It was on hotukdeals.

Re: Recommend a network printer ?

Becareful of print servers, these days of USB printers, not all print servers support all printers, unlike in the day of parallel and serial printing. Personally I have 2 HP laserjet printers, both a colour and a BW one, they have lasted for years and you can still get spares for them, there is good driver support as well.

Re: Recommend a network printer ?

Yes - I have a wireless 3Com print server, but it's small memory meant that printing anything other than a business letter would overrun the buffer. This nis why I was leaning towards a built in version.

Re: Recommend a network printer ?

Ah i didnt know it was such a good deal when we got it! Yeh was from tesco .

Just stay away from lexmark, ink is godly expensive and offers no real benefit compared to other brands. Good luck searching.

If the printer is good enough currently then it might be worth looking at print servers, look at the edimax ones (edimax always seem good for me, havent tried print servers though), think scan has them varying from £15-£40.
