    Low profile CPU cooler advice

I am looking for a cheap low profile cooler for an Intel E4300 processor which needs to be no more than 60MM in height and has to fit in a mini ITX motherboard. I do have an E5300 stock heatsink which is the right size but would this be enough for the E4300?? I don't have a huge budget and would prefer to spend under £15 if possible.

i'd imagine the 5300 stock cooler would be sufficient if the e4300 is running at stock speeds. Give it a go and find out!

Thye both have the same nominal TDP although the E5300 does have a higher rated maximum temperature though.

Re: Low profile CPU cooler advice

Should be fine and if the CPU runs too hot just lower the vcore a bit and test if its stable...I'm sure you can undervolt it a fair bit at stock and it'd still be stable but I doubt you will even need to.

The Zalman is a nice heatsink which I would like to get but it is outside the price range I am looking at!

Re: Low profile CPU cooler advice

If its any comfort the i7 860 comes with the same profile cooler as the Wolfdales.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

I've got a stock Intel cooler that came with a 641 and was only used for a couple of hours if it's any use to you. It is 60mm from the surface of the CPU to the top of the fan frame.

Hate to say this but that looks exactly the same as the short intel stock cooler, just a different fan on top (oh and that broken fan blade on that auction will make the fan very bad )

You could look at one of the other zalman or simular, flower type coolers, should be able to pick up something decent 2nd hand.
Or maybe a pure copper server cooler, with some modding to make it.
You could simply use a back plate some, long bolts and sprung nuts then sandwich it between the cpu and a fan.

Re: Low profile CPU cooler advice

I have still to receive the mini ITX motherboard but it looks like the CPU will be just under the blasted drive cage of the Shuttle case I am using. If it isn't then I could probably use a normal cooler without any issue.

I had a quick look on the Intel website and the E4300 I have is an L2 stepping which has a maximum rated operating temperature of only 61.4C! The later E4500 had a maximum operating temperature of 73.3C and the E5300 a maximum operating temperature of 74.1C.

This must be why the heatsink of the E4500 does not use any copper IIRC and the one on the E5300 is so small. Maybe I need to give the E5300 heatsink a try first and see how high the idle temperatures look.
