    Hey Escapizm,

Mostly depends on what you (or your friend) want to achieve - I tried to build in flexibility, hence the rather overkill approach to running CAT5E (CAT6 wasn't worth the expense/complication at the time). Perhaps start your thread with the objectives, and go from there?

I must admit I need to update this thread - I've done more but haven't had much time to post!

    Dave

Dave, I wonder if you'd be so kind as to measure Grandad87's rack for me?

If you have time, I'm after the overall width and the opening width (minus the rack strip/washer) - plans are afoot to construct something similar for a little project at work.

    Thank you!

Sure, overall width is just under 60 cms, with the opening 49cms. If you are not going to use washers as I have (if it is for a rack mount) then you would want to make this opening a bit narrower (otherwise the rack strip will be in the wrong place!)

I already have a short cabinet full of kit but the latest addition (a server) hangs out the back. Rather than spend £250+ on a new cabinet I thought I'd knock up something myself.

I should be able to get it all done for well under £50 so thank you (and Grandad87)
