As to a quite case, easy, take out all the fans and replace the hard drives with SSD's
there you go silent, even if it is a cheap £15 budget case

All the padding will do nothing if you have a high air flow delta fan in it.
same goes for thermal performance, a £15 case with a couple of delta fans in is going to keep hardware cool, it'll also sound like a jet engine and suck in any close by lose objects.

That said the basic fractal design R3 is very nice http://www.scan.co.uk/products/fract...r-case-w-o-psu
You may need to add some additional fans, but for an undervolted e6600 and a low end gpu you don't need super cooling at all.
the stock fractal fans are very quite main because the rpm is so low, but that does mean less air flow.

How many hard drives do you want to put in this, personally speaking they are a major source of vibration after fans, getting a case with built in vibration damping (normally grommets on the screws) is much better than trying to damp vibrations of hdd is a cage not designed to have anti-vibration added.

    Re: Quiet PC Case

Cases per se aren't neccessarily noisy or quiet, its usually the stuff you put in them that causes the noise - unless they're really nasty and vibrate....

I would recommend something like this Lian Li

    http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop/...at=1701&page=1

Stylish, within budget and quiet if you get the right components in there:

    1) PSU fan - make sure you get a good PSU with fan that only spins up when its gets to certain temp
    2) Hard disks - the Lian Li comes with the rubber grommet things so just make sure you buy a quite drive to start with - I have the Samsung F3s and I've never heard them
    3) Fans - you can get cheap quiet fans - Yate loons or similar for £5, as long as they are 120mm or more, no problemo
    4) Same thing with HSF - make sure you get a larger 120mm quiet fan
    etc...

Oh yeah I'd forgotten that it wasn't aluminium. Next time I pick it up I'll remember it's steel
Brushed metal is what I mean then, it looks nice

Yeah that wont happen at 2-6gb/hour and SSDs being so expensive, problem is the other fans like psu and cpu hsf pretty much

I have 2 atm, will be adding more (as I will with TV cards) but they are all 5400rpm or low noise drives like spinpoint as they are for recording tv to

    Re: Quiet PC Case

Ok then the basic Fractal design R3 would be fine, the Lian-Li PC-60FNB only takes 4 HDD in it's cage, you could fit extras but it would have to be in a cage to go in the 5.25" bays

\speaking of 5.25" cages, if you don't mind them then the Silverstone precision PS01 would be a good cheap option http://www.scan.co.uk/products/silve...m-fans-w-o-psu
