    I use a microsoft intellimouse (5 buttoned version) and I use the following for my surface ;

    A glass chess board under which a wooden desk is - talk about glide city 24/7 and great for pulling off mad moves in FPS games

    I use my lovely Alienware Func mousepad. Not as flashy as a glass chessboard though.

    Ball mice are obsolete, there's absolutely no reason why you should still be using one unless you're utterly poor and live in a box in which case you probably will just have a ball mouse, minus the PC.

    If you like trying to identify all the gunk that comes out of your ball mouse everymonth then, hey, that's fine. If you don't and want precision all the time, get an optical mouse.

    M$ intellimouse optical 5 button oem for me (£15 from somewhere I can't remember!)

    For those on a budget that don't play games, me recommends

    Natural feel, positive buttons and best mouse wheel I've ever felt

    MX700 is no good for gaming.... There is lag between you moving the mouse and moving on screen. Since moving to a boomslang for UT2004 I do MUCH better. One of my mates made the same move.

    Optical mice are really bad for one thing. Twitching. If you twitch an optical mouse it doesn't always register. The MX700 is alot better on a good surface like an Everglide. But still no where near as responsive as a Ball mouse. I think the latest generation MS mouse is better for games than the logitech... just.

    I agree totally. I also have an MX500 and I find it far better than any ball mouse. Not only has it required zero maintenance, but it also provides far better tracking and glides more smoothly across my mouse pad.

    Didn't like the Viper much - it suffers from 2nd gen optical skipping when you move it fast across surfaces and it's not as smooth as an MX

    You're a bit behind on your info MX300/500's do allow twitching with full response (so long as you have a decent surface) whereas previous mice didn't - not sure about the MX700 (being cordless).

    Got an MX700 and the new MX510......both are absolutely brilliant, but for precision when playing FPS, the MX510 is the way to go....

    MX500 here and its the dogs danglies, although mx510 is supposed to be better.

    I personally prefer wired and big mx500 is perfect wouldn't sell it for £1000 (ok maybe I would but u know what I mean)

    I'm pretty sure the technology is precisely the same for the MX310 and the MX510 they just have a different (supposedly more ergonomic?) design.
