We perceive density almost as much as weight - give anyone two boxes of different sizes that weigh the same and they will think the smaller one is heavier.

Probably a very dumb question but is this psu remotely similar Silverpower SP-400P2C 400W Power Supply . I have one as a back up psu ... no idea whether it is good or not.

There is an internal picture from the maxpoint website in post 16.

    Edit!!

Supposedly it is made by SolyTech according to some people I asked over at JonnyGuru. They think it is a crap OEM.

However, one of the more experienced posters though it would be fine for 350W.

Nothing spectacular but will do the job for a basic system.

However,it seems to be an older design by modern standards.

    A second edit!!

It seems the pictures on the maxpoint site contradict each other!!

The SP-SS-400 did not make any additional noise I could hear over the case and CPU fans. However, the PSU is meant to be relatively noisy under heavier loads. OTH,it is meant to vent more of the warm air of the case than other similar PSUs according to the following review:

    Edit!!

Both the Corsair CX400W and the SP-SS-400 use the same cooling fan:

The Seasonic SS-400ET 400W looks to be the same power supply as the Corsair CX400W and the Silverpower SP-SS-400:

Is it possible to get a picture of the side of the PSU where the ratings sticker is??

If we can get the UL or TÜV SÜD number you can find out what the OEM is!

Alternatively,if you can find the numbers it would be great!

Here is what you need to look for:

It's not just the fan, the cx400 fan was load controlled not temperature controlled, it might be the same in the sp-ss-400

AFAIK, it seems the Corsair CX400W,Silverpower SP-SS-400 and the Seasonic SS-400ET look to be identical internally.

Looks like the Corsair CX400W lives on....in the heart of the Silverpower SP-SS-400!

    Take that CX430W!
