The low pricing of DDR3 is tempting. However,I realised that getting a better graphics card for my current system will be more cost effective and hopefully will involve less hassle too.

Precisely what's put me off from using AM2 stuff in the spare rig. Just over £30 will get you 4GB (2x2GB) of decent branded DDR3 now. I'd rather sell up and start again.

    Re: QUAD 6600 OR i3 ??

Yes there's been a massive drop in ddr3 prices, start of november the same 2x2gb ddr3 would of cost £70

That ASrock board with both memory slots is a AM2+ board, the memory controller is in the cpu not the board, what they've done is to add in a 2nd set of memory pathways for the ddr3 memory.
The only real difference between an am2+ and am3 board is a change in socket pin holes, so you cannot physically put an am2 cpu into an am3 socket and the memory sockets and the pathways to the cpu.
Great board as well, it's one thing ASRock does so well it's their hybrid boards.
