    Re: Pc help for gaming

Ok looks like he on a 760g chipset, the onboard graphics on that really isn't much good for games

And it's a really cut down motherboard.

    The options basically are

1 - replace motherboard and add it a graphics card
Issues with this, the windows license is probably linked to the motherboard, so swapping that out will also mean you'll have to buy a new copy of windows as well, the current psu is not good enough for the extra power consumption of a graphics card so that's going to have to be replaced too.

2 - find a pci-e x1 graphics card, will not be easy of cheap for what it is, best I could find was a 8400gs which is more a step sideways than a step up.

3 - build a new pc, going to be the most expensive option.

    Going with option 1
    Motherboard http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus-...-micro-atx-vga
Graphics card (I've gone for under £100 here) http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-x...-dvi-i-dp-hdmi
PSU (you'll need to check the size used I cannot find out if it's a normal ATX or some other size) standard ATX http://www.scan.co.uk/products/400w-...mm-fan-atx-12v
Windows 7 64bit http://www.scan.co.uk/products/micro...tem-single-oem (he should be able to use the OEM version?)
Total cost just short of £260

EDIT; he's got 3gb of memory already and his cpu while not the fastest should be ok and there's plenty of room there for later upgrades.
Current case, hard drive and dvd can be kept, a 2nd hard drive could be added for more space.

Here is an alternate build the OP might want to consider:

    Phenom II X4 955BE ~ £103

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/amd-p...hz-125w-retail

    OR

    Phenom II X4 840 ~ £79

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/amd-p...mhz-95w-retail

The Phenom II X4 955BE has L3 cache making it faster.

    Biostar TA870 ~ £59

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/255180

    This has SATA3.0 too.

If you want to overclock then one of the 870 motherboards for around £70 would be a better choice IMHO.

    4GB 1600MHZ DDR3 ~ £34

    http://www.scan.co.uk/todayonly/index.aspx

    650W Antec TruePower New ~ £60

    http://www.scan.co.uk/todayonly/index.aspx

This is made by Seasonic and is semi-modular.

    Thermaltake V3 ~ £33

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/234920

    1GB EVGA GTX 460 SC Super ~ £137

    http://www.scan.co.uk/shopoffers/index.aspx

The HD6850 1GB will more energy efficient though.

    Samsung F3 1TB ~ £40

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/ss1tb...-89-ms-ncq-oem

    Samsung SH-S223 ~ £12

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/145450

    Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM ~ £74

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/micro...tem-single-oem

The total comes to around £528 to £552.

You can get free postage from Scan when you get 20 posts:

It seems the PSU does look like an ATX one:

    Good spot!!

The internal layout looks better than the Thermaltake V3 and you also get two fans too.

    Re: Pc help for gaming

The 2 online shops that i'd personally buy from are Ebuyer and Scan, I have used them both lots and lots and have no particular issues with them (Scan offer better service though through this website, so if you are on the fence, lean towards Scan).

The PC that CAT-THE-FIFTH suggested is certainly a stronger all-round PC than the one that i did, at the cost of being more money, a physically bigger case (which could be a good or bad thing) and will use more electric. Considering what you are trading up from, either suggestions are light years ahead.

As for Pob255's suggestion of re-using older stuff, it's certainly an option, however if you want to donate the old machine to someone then best off leaving all alone.

This may sound stupid . Where do the wires go ect for the lights on the case and the mic.speaker connection and everything else go , Reason being i dissmantled one and the wires on that one where connected to the mother board but if i was to put that back together i would not be sure which ones go where as theres no lableing .
But as for every thing else im ok
Is it easy to find out i read about this case on that site but came with no destructions some one said and i think i would need them

So for me would be just getting all the wires / connectors from the case correctly on the mother board ect
Dumb question for you all but this will be my 1st bulid

    Re: Pc help for gaming

The motherboard manual will come with with that info, ie which wire plugs in where.

most of it is fairly straight forward, main thing it the hard drive and power led, if you plug them in the wrong way around the led will not light up, but at the same time they are not actually vital or required to make the pc work and you can just unplug it and flip it over.

Each of the plugs from the front leads (USB, power button, reset button, power led, hdd led, audio) will be labeled, audio and usb are designed to only fit one way round, the power and reset buttons don't matter which way around they go (just as long as one pin is on the + and one on the - ) the led's I've already mentioned.

One bit of advice fit the cpu and cooler before you put the motherboard into the case, most manuals will say put the motherboard in first but it's easier to fit the cpu cooler when its out of the case and easy to work on as this is the one bit that will generally require a little pressure to clip in.

With everything else one rule, DON'T force it, if it's not going in then it probably isn't meant to go their or you're trying to put it in the wrong way around.
