I have 5 actually working, and another 4 in various states of undress !!

Main rig is a Barton 2500@3200 on my trusty old NF7-S. Server is buit around a 2.8 P4 on a Asus P4P800S-X. The 2 kids both have a budget P4 build each and my download box is a XP2100+ in a SFF case, nothing spectacular although I'm looking for a half size gfx card as the onboard vid is a little weak. (All running BOINC by the way).

Loads of other bits, all working but having difficulty finding the time to put them all together, I reckon another 4 machines could be built from the shambles that is my study. Plus her indoors is constantly giving me grief about the bits.

how much does it cost to run a pc per month anyway?

I only have 2 pcs (one is my pc and one is a mythtv/server aopen xc cube) and an old in the tooth laptop at the moment. I could do with another server and a PC for my wife in theory...

    oh and a new laptop

    Well let me see...

I currently have in vairous states...

    • P4 2.66 based Shuttle - Windows XP main desktop/RDC box (email etc.)
    • AMD64 3200+ based Shuttle SN85G4 (s754) - Gentoo Linux server - 64bit Linux
    • AMD64 3500+ based Shuttle SN95G5 (s939) - Gaming rig and now doing software development on my big Dell widescreen TFT
    • Dual P3 1Gig Server - Linux Fileserver - Lot's of disks (11)
    • 2 * Dell SX260's (P4m's) - Windows Server boxes and general test rigs
    • Old 233MMX Compaq - Firewall duties - DMZ LAN for Wireless etc.
    • Old IBM Thinkpad - My Laptop
    • Compaq Evo laptop - G/F's laptop

All those PC's have a good bit of ram and other bits etc. and most are accessed remotly or via a KVM. So that's 9 PC's on and wired plus another 3 Shuttles in vairous states and about 5/6 board, chip and ram sets in my bits box.

Ouch!, that's really scary. I need to get rid of some of this stuff .

Edit: 3 of those 6 boards are dual P3's (1 gig or above) with at least a gig of ECC ram on each but they eat power . SFF's help to keep my power use down to managable levels but the server with it's 13 IDE devices eats the juice .

    Voted 4 running:
Mine, GF's, Mine secondary & the family PC downstairs.

    but.....
There is a laptop that is 50% here and 50% at work.
I also have 5 various PC's (from P75 to 1.2GHz Athlon) ready to plug in at a moments notice and a spare case ready to take any of the variety of motherboard + gubbins combinations that are in boxes in the loft!

However I met a guy recently who had 47 computers at last count, including a number of PC's, all of which are available to run at 5mins notice. I feel humbled!
