I have spent many an hour cursing not working things only to discover that they are not plugged in.
I also gashed myself pretty badly putting a JNC case together.

When I first started building for a company forgot to connect the power supply to the board and wondered why it wasnt working, continued to strip the PC down thinking it was a knackered motherboard till one of my colleagues pointed out what I had done.
At the time the company was using the cheapo PC Chips boards and a good few of them were getting returned for whatever reason to be fair on me.
1. Downloaded some kind of processor overclocking software and overclocked my 2000+ by 200mhz in one jump
Least to say, it wasn't pleased after restarting... the comp locked up and as I had no clue what to do, I took it back to the shop and they sorted it lol
Then once i got it back, if anyone remembers i was suffering from numerous constant lockups on video editing etc.. i later found I had burnt off half my 2000+ chip, although it still ran windows fine
So under warranty it was replaced with a nice new 2400+, and i shall never overclock again
(this is a story of one of my m8s)
2. Purchased a small magnet that was able to pickup paper clips and the like.
M8 waved it next to his monitor and put it next to his case. The magnet seemed to be attracted to the monitor and case, and there was a rather strange sound from inside the machine. Upon reboot, the hard disk had been wiped and the monitor was turned partially pink :O Luckily I managed to recover it for him, but i still think its unstable and not working properly to this day
I've done the magnet on a monitor thing b4, u do it too long and it'll fraggle the monitor...Originally Posted by MurphmanL

Had a large obnoxious corruption on my disk drive so I removed Norton Disk Doctor to make more room.
Felt very stupid afterwards.

Components So Far:
XFX Geforce MX 4000 128mb
"SumEvision" (Who the hell are they) Multi channel PCI Sound card.
Standard 56K Modem that I'll probably never use.
Case with a bit missing but it's only superficial.
(God this PC is turning into a joke. )
Haha! I've been trying to think of a stupid PC thing ive done and couldnt for the life of me think of one - but your tail has jogged my memory.Originally Posted by Grey M@a

The finger heald up, no skin breakage which i was amazed at, but the fan however, off came a blade at about 100mph and proceeded to ping around the room for what seemed like an eternity almost killing me, my mate and his sister mutiple times before embedding itself in a wall. Of course once we all got up from our cowering position's, we noticed the PC was then vibrating around on the floor like some kinda demented R2D2, the fan was still going at a rate of knots but without one blade. My mate dived and pulled the power. Phew!
It was a bit of a freak accident both because my finger didnt get chopped off, and because of the random bouncing off walls superspeed blade. I bet if i tried to make that happen again i'd end up chopping me finger off
So there, thats i think the only stupid thing ive ever done to a PC

haha, they are all great
A HP-EPC wouldnt boot properly, first thing I'd do would be run a boot floppy, but its a tiny machine and doesnt have a floppy drive. So I have to boot from CD, but that doesn't work for some reason, So I decide to try and find a windows 98 boot floppy that lets you boot with CD support, it took an age to find!. Wander back to the PC in question with the floppy disk, at which point I realise what a muppet I am :S

Hassling 1and1 for the past 3 weeks about a domain transfer before realising my email address was typed in wrong
Hot plugging a hard drive a dozen times until it made strange noises and died. Dismantling a CD writer to the last transistor before realising it was only a pin on the IDE interface that was bent. Buying a qTech heatsink and killing a virtually new asus mainboard with a slippy screwdriver because it was so hard to fix on, and usually jumped off again. The clip was damaged.. Leaving the same heatsink in a computer I was going to sell my friend while I waited for for a new heatsink, and he checked it out in my room, pulled the heatsink off, and killed the Athlon.
But the most stupidest thing ever ever is when I typed with the keyboard on the floor too often to edit the odd text, while I changed rooms, and not noticing in the freezing winter that my hands were aching a little bit more than usual, and getting carpal tunnel syndrome. I don't know if I ever be able to play all-night sessions of quake ever again, certainly not for a couple of years, but I will get good at juggling probably.

Just spent 30 minutes swearing at my speakers as i got no output from the right speaker. took all the Sub connections apart, tested each speaker in each hole, before finally noticing that the jack had loosened on the back of the shuttle when i moved it earlier.
daft bugger sums it up nicely

rebuilt my pc into a new case recently and upgraded to an AMD 64 at same time. I could not get it to power up for a week or more on and off. swapped every component and even put it back into old case still with no result.
Eventually found the mobo had a second main power connector which had to be plugged in to work and guess what?
It was only reading the mobo manual that I found the prob after a week.
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.
