The cables are for a card reader which was from the previous build - the case was smaller and hence the cables were quite short.

My mate has had the system well over 4 years now and it has lasted well even when being subjected to running bioinformatics stuff for weeks at a time(!). The PSU has been replaced with a white NZXT Hale Power 90+ 550W PSU. The system now has a 480GB Sandisk SSD and over 4TB of storage and has 16GB of RAM. The HD4670 was replaced by an HD4830 which was then replaced by an HD7850 2GB. However,the latter has to RMAed now,so the HD4670 is now back in there.

To be fair, most bioinformatics tasks you'd run on a local computer are low load, I/O bound stuff full of inefficiencies Hard working stuff you'd put on a server somewhere and only do some parsing locally if you have to

This was additional stuff he was doing for "fun" outside his main project so he could get another paper out. He other stuff running at work too. It was single thread heavy,so the few instances he was running were maxing out the single cores of the Phenom II X6. The system was running under full pelt for weeks.

Not bad going, My phenomII x4 is still going strong

I've been doing some cleaning up recently and found my old 7900GS xfx factory overclocked, I tested it and it still works fine.
I think I got that back in 2007 or 8

Well the system was only upgraded in the last few months to a Ryzen 9 3900 non-X. It did it's job well - it seems to still work though.
