    Lightbulb 2800 barton overclocks!

i am going to buy a coolermaster aero 7+ soon....and i am wondering what the most people have overclocked there 2800bartons to.... i am running an asus a7n8x-e deluxe rev 1008,corsair xms pro-series 3200 ddr 400, amd athlon 2800xp barton, asus 9600xt 128mb.... any other details just ask....so what kinda speeds would i get with this hardware? i know my ram will overclock to 500mhz easy as it is designed for overclocking and gaming, plus the corsair site says its capable of 500mhz easy....so any results or suggestions would be cool.
    cheers

Depends how much voltage you are willing to push through it. Keep temps below 50c and safe max for air is 2v. You probably cant keep 2v below 60c with that cooler...

I would say 2.4-2.5ghz atleast, probably more if you push it.

You will probably need to add heatsinks to the voltage regulators (there should be about 6 of them, near about 6 capacitors, and they are 1cm2 with 3 legs) becuase they give unstable voltage when they get hot.

I think its a bit optimistic to think your ram will do 250mhz fsb sync'd. Im not sure what chips corsair use now but at low timings they probably aint that good.
And I would be even more suprised if your mobo can do 250... most asus ones I know of struggled to get 210mhz, but that might have changed...

They can't be unlocked, unfortunately. It depends how good a clocker the core is whether you make it to 200FSB; I think you'll be lucky on air but it's worth a try..... Never mind, I run my computer at 189FSB and can't tell the difference, it wasn't stable at 200.

Epox 8RDA+ V2.1, Duron 1600 modded to XP (unlocked), 2x256 standard TwinMOS PC3200, Softmodded 9500. CPU is running 11x189 for 2.08GHZ at 1.7V. I haven't done the L12 mod yet, but the system wasn't prime stable at 200MHz even though the motherboard and RAM should both be capable of it. I can actually boot into windows and bench Sandra at 215MHz or more, I don't know why there's such a wide gap between my max stable and outright maximum speed TBH. I need the computer to be Prime stable as it runs FAD 24/7 so have had to wind the wick down a bit for the time being. Still, it plays every game I've thrown at it pretty much fine, so I'm disinclined to fiddle at the moment.

I thought bartons could be unlocked using the l5 mod? (makes them think they are mobile chips) but doesnt work properly on all mobos...

Rave does yours pass memtest86 ok at 200?

That probably would work, but he'd need to boot up at a low FSB, then reduce the multi and up the FSB in windows. That could work mind, but it's a bit of an effort to do it every time you boot up. The L5 mod doesn't give you the ability to adjust the multi with the bios, you have to do it in software (if I'm teaching granny to suck eggs here, stop me).

Never tried TBH. I'm not sure what that would tell me really, I need the computer to be prime stable so I don't produce duff results for Find-A-Drug.

You have to join the last L2 bridge. This also only works on unlocked chips as far as I'm aware. Sometimes the extra L2 cache is faulty, just as not all 9500s can be softmodded.

Memtest will tell you if its the mobo or ram limiting it. Memtest is as good if not better than prime for stabiiltiy, as its the only decent app for testing ram.
