    I like my Maxtor's I do.

I have a 40GB DiamondPlus 8, 60GB DiamondPlus 9 and a 80GB DiamondPlus 9. Can't complain about the noise from them as I turned their acoustic management on using a program from Hitachi. Nearly as quiet as my friends Seagate Barracuda when seeking now.

Seagate's - not the fastest drives around, but they are pretty good. Also, if anything goes wrong, Seagate's RMA procedure is one I've found to be very useful. If you have a RAID array, you can ring them and arrange for the exact same drive model to be used as the replacement.

Couple of seagate barracudas SATAs - occasionally noisy when seeking - first time it did a noisy seek, I thought they were fubar'd.

Also 2 maxtor 9 80GB and a WD 800JB 80GB - the WD is the noisiest of the lot - but still quite quiet.

    Work - two Maxtor D740X's in RAID0.

    Home comp 1: Maxtor DM +9 80GB

Home Comp 2: Maxtor 30GB (can't remember the exact model might be a +6).

They just work, and I haven't had a Maxtor fail on me yet. Performance is OK too.

Also based mostly upon the recommendations on this forum, I'm now on 2x 160GB Sammies. Though I need more - these two are already full.

Most of my drives are Western Digital - never had aproblem with them. Have one each of the Samsung and Hitachi drives to give them a go and see what all the fuss was about - not too bad. Maxtor I have had problems with - used to get nothing but these then had a few failures, although their RMA department is decent. Seagate - had way too many bad experiences years ago that I will never use another seagate drive if it all possible. Wouldn't touch the cheapo excelstor ones.

using 2xraptors at the minute. and after ive finished with my new case mods and stuff gonna invest in a Western Digital Caviar Special Edition 250GB 2500JD SATA 8MB Cache. Really like the western digitals found them to be much more reliable over long term use than the maxtors i always used to buy.

And i got about 3 maxtor dm9 of various sizes knockin about. decent drives only second to WD
