Please Help!New AMD64 build wont boot!

Hello I got my new Asus 939 mb and AMD 3500 cpu today and have lots of problems.

I switch the pc on and power goes into the motherboard but it wont boot / Post / Nothing at all ! Theres no warning message. If I press Power again then it wont switch off ! Ive tried changing ram but no change. I think the CPU might be dead ! Is this possible ? Surely if it was posting ok then pressing power would switch the computer off. I get no display

    My spec are as follows

    Pc Twinmos 3200 Ram - 2 times 256megs !
    Serial ATA Maxtor Hdd
    Graphics Card = 9800 ATI !

What should i do ? RMa the mob or the CPU ?

I should be hearing beeps but hear no beeps or messages and ive connected the pc speaker up !

    Someone anyone !!

Probably either the motherboard or the CPU. You have to hold the power switch down for 4 seconds on some motherboards to turn the power off, try this. I dont think you receive any POST when the CPU is damaged/not detected, so I would RMA that, but the motherboard could be damaged. The RAM and Graphics would result in a POST if they were the problems, if you have setup the system speaker correctly.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

Thanks for the help guys i found out what it was i feel so stupid.

I had plugged the power in but i hadnt plugged the other cube power supply in. I had never had to use that before for a xp system before.

Im installing windows xp now but it seems to be taking twice as long wonder if i specified the correct serial ATA driver.

Or maybe all 939 installation take so long.
    ; sigh what a day !

had a similar issue of not booting with almost identical setup, I’d missed the extra power too!

Still cant get the system to find my Seagate 7200 SATA drive, seems to find it in BIOS but then stops booting, cant get to the point of pressing F6 in windows and loading the SATA drivers from a floppy. Have had to use my old IDE HDD instead, which works fine.

Have I plugged it in to the wrong connector on the ASUS (A8V) motherboard? are there jumpers I have to adjust? the BIOS was left at default and the CD-ROM drives were on the primary IDE controller. I only wanted a stand alone drive not a RAID setup. Still confused

the 3500+ and 939 combo is running brilliantly at the moment with my older IDE drive. Tried using Windows CD then F6 to load SATA drivers from a floppy but something went wrong and it refused to find the HDD any time after the first attempt. after swapping connectors, leads, BIOS etc for 2-3 hours gave up and used my old Hard disk, no problem..... will get the Bugger SATA working eventually I suppose

Probably something obvious I've overlooked!!! LOL

    promise.. NOOOOOO!!!!! OMG! NO!

The Promise uses the PCI BUS! Stick with the intel... How long does it take to boot? 3 - 9 seconds... Or should I not compare mine to yours?

Well for a midrange buget pc i think you did well! Add a few raptors and you should be fine! I'd love to see some benchmarks later on! I wish to compare my system to see where I stand as far as overall performance....

Hope not - its an AMD system he's got.

    I wouldn't call a socket 939 3500+ a midrange budget system

    MSI P55-GD80, i5 750
    abit A-S78H, Phenom 9750,

    My HEXUS.trust abit forums

lol! I didn't mean intel.. I have no Idea why I included intel!

And yes I'd call it midrange! He has a great Proc and mobo, however he lacks The ram and storage raids, also the Great graphics! I dont know about the sound card? All in all I'd call it a midrange! I go buy the whole system.. not just the case and componets!

Edit: keep in mind I spent almost 5,000 dollars on mine! 2,500 I consider to be midrange
