    He will need to get an inverter which will also change it to 240v, this way he can just plug the pc straight into it through a kettle lead and it will smooth the power aswell.

    I think we are a long way off requiring a 3 phase supply for PC's although Nvidia are heading that way LOL

    Do you not remember the voodoo 6 reference card? It needed an external power brick

    Acctually im sure that the power brick would have given less power than what nvidia plan to take on there cards - people have better psu's now in general, so theres no need to force the power brick on everyone...

    Powersupplies do exist for running off 12 / 24v car/truck supplies
    try searching for PSU's for industrial PC's.
