Red face Re: Water Cooling - Is it worth it?

Sounds great but I can't seem to find it online. How much does it all cost and is there an alternative to it that I can buy that you're aware of?

similar to this. the red tube connected to the fittings.

comes off easily, especially if your tubing bends a bit.

the screw doesnt come off, its teh tube. fittings simply doesnt clamp and stay
you have crap fittings then as i have never had this problem using koolance ones.

phone the nice chap at spacial-tech, he has them in stock according to his ebay site, if not he will get you one. very nice bloke to deal with, has gotten me out the proverbial last thing friday night by sorting a sat special deliver of some emergency bits i forgot
    http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop/....php?pageid=12

costs around £100 for the tms205 + add on card.

alternatives dont seem to be in the same class m8.

Re: Water Cooling - Is it worth it?

Thanks for the tip. But what's the main advantage, compared to connecting everything to the Motherboard PWM headers? Is it really worth it? I only have 2 case fans that are not PWM.
    Cheers

I don't think that prebuilts are useless but if you use it at high load for long periods of time then it's better to have a proper loop.
Sorry when i said sandybridge i actually meant Ivybridge, sandybridge was very different as they used solder to bond the chip to the heat spreader.
Have you, or anyone else compared say a h100 or h80 to a proper loop with ivy?
My h100 runs my 3570@ 4.7 hitting around 61-62c max on prime95 (which is safe) for 24 hours, but the puzzling thing is the auto fan controller built into the pump/contact doesn't spin up, the chip hits that temp but it just doesn't transfer through and even manually ramping the fans up makes little difference.
Tried a few thermal compounds and spreading techniques on the chip with zero difference. This never happened with my AMD 955, It always spun up fine so i know it's not that!

Re: Water Cooling - Is it worth it?

Like dacads mentioned its definitely a hobby. I just spent £350 on a custom watercooling loop and I saw temps drop about 10 degrees across the board. I love the fact that my PC is much quieter than before.

For me it was the setup that was quite fun and the overall look of the PC is so much better, just seeing the tubes going from part to part looks fairly bas-ass.

But as for whether it's worth it or not, with today's parts, probably not, but if you're going to do some serious overclocking the watercooled loop could really help keep your temps down, but only you can decide if it's really worth the money or not...

Re: Water Cooling - Is it worth it?

Never had a compression fitting leak nor any tubing come off because of them, they clamp really well and are much more reliable than barbs IMO, I dont even have fittings from bitspower or koolance I just have some EK and generic fittings from specialtech all work fine. There must be something with how you use them josh, maybe you screw them to tight or not enough?.

If you want ultimate control on the fans and stuff then the koolance unit that gonz0 mentioned can be good, judging by the sounds of things though its an extreme investment for a little setup and I personally wouldnt say its worth it for that. I just have my fans hooked up to a lancool v5 (or something like that) and the pumps on their own channel running @ 9v, fans normally running at about 700rpm.

Does your tube bend? Mine does at places and that's where the tube comes off the fittings

Lots of my tubing bends but how much do you class as a bend? if you have like a 45 degree bend then ofc its going to cause strain but I get tubing kinking before anything like that, if you have really serious bend then you should consider getting angled fittings.

A tiny bit of bend. I have one angle fitting and the tube already looks looks like it will easily come off. I will try and take a pic later tried pushing it more on the fitting but it always slides down a bit

Are your fittings the correct size for the tubing O.D.?, could be a mm or so smaller thus not holding effectively. The clamp ring should be tight fitting on the tube when you slide it on before attaching.

I've been using 7/16" tubing over 1/2" barbs with no clamps or ties for about the last 3 or so years myself, never had any issues and prefer the cleaner look.

Could it be the tubing quality material?

    I use 1/2 3/4 tubing

Re: Water Cooling - Is it worth it?

i tried that size tube and tossed it straight in the bin Josh, it didnt bend enough.I use 1/2"-5/8th (13-16mm) and have some very tight bends, so tight i have to use anti kink coils to stop the pipe bending in half.

this should give you an idea back when i 1st built into the corsair 800d
