I think the fundamental flaw with CGI so far is simply animation. I find that i will believe even simply objects if they are animated properly. Graphics can go far but if the animation still looks like something out of south park then we have a long way to go

The motion aspect was solved a while ago, the main problem with cgi is that it still looks too perfect, but that's slowly changing.
Things like dirt shaders, and surface deformers address the "perfect" look, the old skin translucency issue has been addressed by sub-surface scattering techniques, and lighting looks much more realistic with HDRI lighting maps.

The trouble is that while you can get a very lifelike render in something like Cinema4D or 3DStudio Max etc, it's nowhere near realtime, and indeed, for some of the best renders it can take days to render a single frame.

To get realtime "real" gaming it's going to take a massive leap in graphics architecture, display technology, and of course CPU development.

"25 Years" is dubious, and sounds very much like someone clutching a number out of thin air, after all they said we'd all be driving around in hovercars and living on mars by now, back in the 50's and 60's..

I honestly dont think animation/motion has been solved. The best ive seen that comes to mind is Spiderman 2, and they did good with the mechanical parts of Doc Oc but you can still clearly see that spiderman just doesnt move right.

There are probably better examples but im still not convinced
