Ok I need retail therapy, today :)

Well I for some reason woke up this morning and want to upgrade my system at home to something new, I am thinking of a budget around £700 and I need a few things, I will list them but I need to decide if I want an AMD64 or an Intel system. The other thing I cannot decide is the whole shuttle or base unit idea, I want two HDD and dont really want to go for the larger shuttle, so would go with a P160 Antec case if needs be.

    I need the following kit....
    Mother Board
    CPU
1GB of memory MINIMUM, would prefer 2GB, preferably PC4000
and two HDD, both SATA, preferably 16mb Maxtor ones.
    and a DVD burner

Thats all as I already have a 6800GT, I can stretch the budget to 800 if needs be as the P4 2.4 and the gig of PC2700 must be worth that much.

Any suggestions? I know its a broad scope, but I know many people have different opinions, so I am open to ideas

    A64 rig easy
    • AMD Athlon 64 3200 winnie if clocking or choice of CPU
    • nForce3 mobo if must buy today or wait till after xmas and get nForce4
    • 1GB of TCCD ram such as Corsair XMS3200XL or PQI UltraMemory. Runs anywhere between PC3200 and PC4400 depending on volts and timings (ie most do 250Mhz FSB with a 2.5-x-x-10 timings with 2.8v)
    • 2 Maxtors of your size and choice (must be 200GB or above iirc)
    • NEC ND-3500AG burner (recently got one for £45 inc vat peanuts!)

You'd be better to wait after xmas and get cheaper prices tbh!

I guess you are right, but looking at a few things today I am tempted, very tempted to get this...

    Asus A8V Deluxe Mobo
    AMD 64 3500+
    2GB of Patriot PC4000 ram, (£235 for 2GB, BARGAIN!)

for less than £500 to me seems like it may not get any cheaper but I guess if I do go AMD64 then I am better waiting for NF4

Get TCCD pc3200, honestly it is that good! tight timings which PC4000 won't have. Before anybody says yes it does make a difference

You can get Patriot XBLK RAM if you want - tight timings at PC3200 (2-2-2-5), and is guaranteed PC4200.

Edit: Where you getting it all from?

Patriot ram from Tekheads, prolly gonna get the rest from either Ebuyer or Overclockers, will look at the lower clocking patriot, need to check what the price difference is. This system will not be overclocked, it will be used for my intensive graphics work etc etc.

Well if your not clocking then what would you need PC4000 for? That seems a little strange...

Least with TCCD such as the Patriot you get nice ight timings at PC3200 but the option for PC4200 and some ocing
