    I think the "AV" standard ones made all the difference. I have AV500 powerline boxes all over the house, find them way better than WiFi.

    I just cabled the entire house with Cat6/10GbE - was more efficient and a nice selling point

    That is without doubt the best solution (though my experience of 10GbE is fibre). For the vast majority of people, the odd lost packet and 80Mb/s that I get on powerline is more than enough, and our floorboards are a real pain to rip up so I just didn't want to go there.

    If you have an AC router already (and its not a superhub or something crap like that) I'd suggest you try out an AC card with an external antenna first. I have one of these:

    which is epic, but on the pricey side. A cheaper alternative might be to relocate the antenna on your existing card, unless the back of your machine happens to face the router already?
