    Shuttle XPC SN85G4 AMD64 Questions?

    Hi,

Does anybody have the above shuttle and could give me some views on it?

I am looking at a cheap S/H one (£120'ish bare) to replace my aging SS51 Ver. 1 that is showing signs of die'ing (the on-board sound snuffed it and the USB plugs are getting doddgy).

What is the CPU support like for the SN85?
    - Will it go up to a 3400+ in Socket 754?

Is the system stable when not over clocked?
    - Is the ICE heat pipe good enough for the job, it's been a while since I AMD'ed .

What is the on-board HW like, sound, NIC, nforce GFX (well I would put my 9800 in it)?

    Linux Support?
    - Does anybody use a 64Bit Distro on it or will I still have to use a 32Bit base ver for now?

I would be looking to use SuSE 9.1 Pro (or 9.2 if my DVD ever arrives).

    Thanks

    Hi,

Theres 3 versions of this shuttle,

    V1 Nforce3 150 chipset
V2 as above but with a thinner 80x80x15 fan at the back (x25 is norm thickness), removable cd/hdd rack, silentX psu, More refined ICE pipe (apparently)
    V3 Nforce3 250gb, same as above

V3 is the best of the lot because of the new chipset but you will struggle to find one s/h that cheap. Non have onboard gfx so 9800 will have to do

It will take all socket 754 A64's inc the 3400, ive got a 3200 in my V1 running at 42deg which is good enough for me , onboard kit is fine, sounds brilliant for music and games, never had a problem.

cant help you on the linux side, never touch the stuff

    Thanks Pee,

Missed out on the cheap V1, another friend offered more .

Still, decided that I am going to save a little more and get a V3 and make the old Shuttle tie me over for a little longer .
