I turn both of mine every night, unless my main rig is downloading something. No point wasting energy
Uptime is just one factor in availability, the true measure of 'strength' that you are trying to convey, for want of a better word.
No use having 400 day uptime if the box was inaccessible for use and unavailable for the tasks it was designed to do. An idle box with big uptime is no more impressive than me forgetting to put the seat down
Measure availability instead, the time it was available for the tasks it was designed to do AND doing them, divided by uptime.
In the case of a home box, availability invariably is very close to uptime in terms of a figure in hours, minutes etc, but there's a distinct difference.

I think what you are trying to says is that you can leave a win95 machine sat at the desktop for 3 months, but everyone knows it sucks ass stability wise.Originally posted by Rys

My XP gateway machine [running UD 24,7 / p2p / backup storage, mpeg encoding] averages about 30 days uptime. I never reeboot it through choice, but MS patches, powercut and a couple of summer heat related crashes have brought it down. No real complaints with XP here except a few too many MS patches require reeboot.
My XP client machine runs all sorts and averages maybe 3-4 days uptime.
all these people that turn there pc off at night never heard of seti
Someone left a note on a piece of cake in the fridge that said, "Do not eat!". I ate the cake and left a note saying, "Yuck, who the hell eats paper ?
My PC goes on when i get up... goes off if i'm going out for a long time or going to sleep.
