The Tagan 480 came top in a recent roundup of PSUs in Custom PC magazine. They were very complimentary about it.

I have been looking at the OCZ520 myself now.

    It looks like a soundly spec'd bit of kit and I'm wondering if it's worth the little extra money. Considering I'll be o/c'ing a 3500+, with 2 6800GT's, 2 10k HDD's, 2 optical drives, and 4 12cm fans...

Do you think this is overkill and will be just as well served by the NeoPower480?

I quite like the look of the OCZ Modstream range. Reduces the clutter in your case by removing the need to tidy unused cables.

Bit more expensive and I dont think you can adjust the power rails on these models.

It's also a bit tight on the supplied cables compared to the Neopower.

I've heard people say that both the Tagan 480 and Antec NeoPower 480 wont give much headroom in an SLI o/c'd system with a fair few drives and fans.. The NeoPower is tidy and nice to look at, the Tagan seems well spec'd but reliability issues have been raised.

The OCZ Powerstream 520 seems nice, if a little tight in connectors, and an awful green light. And, the OCZ Modstream is even tighter for connectors, and doesn't offer the voltage tweaking that makes it's predecessor desirable.

So, I guess, the only important question is "Is the NeoPower man enough for the kind of system I, and indeed a fair few other people no doubt, are looking at."

Reviews reviews reviews - dual power rail this, voltage feedback that... Urrgghh... Head hurts..

Generally speaking you get what you pay for, and if you stay clear fo the real cheap PSU's there should not too many problems. Maybe choose one with a good warranty, Tagan's is supposedly pretty good.

But what sort of power do you require for say an SLi based system, with 2 6800GT's, couple of DVD drives, couple of hard drives and some minor mods?

And when you say tight for connectors, do you mean not many available, or that the cables are not long enough?

Yeah, I was just picking up on, and agreeing with what Thorsson said earlier - I meant tight as in not many branches - therefore necessitates buying splitters and creating often unnecessary length.

Well that's exactly what I'd like to know - I'd rather be overkill, than under tho, as I'm sure most would.

The NeoPower and Modstream are impressive for their modular cabling system, but I don't know much about the reliability of the Modstream, and wonder if I really need that extra 40W anyway...

Okay mate, i can highly rate both, i've owned the 480W antec and the OCZ 520 currently, and they both hold rails very well. The attraction with the OCZ is the adjustable rails though, definitely. Go OCZ They also do the modstream [modular] and a 600W variety of the powerstream now

Forgive my being a lemon (again).. Does the Powerstream520 offer 'dual rails'? Is it a vastly different supply to the NeoPower in the way that it does it's job, with regards to 'what component should be attached to what line' etc?

Sorry for the babble, but I hope you get my question.
