I have a standard dell mouse mat which is small and averagly speeded cursor but hardly ever need to lift the mouse?
To "centre" the mouse - put it in a comfortable place while keeping the cursor where it's needed. We all do it without thinking about it - except when it goes wrong like it just did for me. I honestly didn't know I lifted the mouse so often.
(PS I'm just on a small IceMat right now.)

Hehe, I was having a nose around in
The Works and they do an A2 cutting mat for £6, and I couldn't resist.
A2 is huge. I may never pick up my mouse again
