    cpu running at wrong speed!

My brothers computer has been running really slowly of recent. After trying several other avenues, I discovered that the CPU speed reported in POST and "My Computer" (properties) is different to what is should be.

    It's a AMD Athlon 2400+ and it's only running at 1800 MHz!!

How do I go about correcting this?! I have no idea.

The 2400+ should be running at 2Ghz. I think the problem is the FSB speed is set to 100 Mhz at the moment. You need to change that to 133Mhz. That should put the processor back up at 2Ghz. (as the muliplier is 15... 15 x 133 = 2000)

You will need to go into the bios and change that... Look for Front Side Bus or FSB, and change it to 133Mhz...

    Hope that helps
