Don't get the thing you have pointed out as it looks pap... Get something like a Zalman Reastor if you want something quiet and decent

Thanks for the advise everyone. After doing some further research on watercooling this afternoon I've come to the conclusion that to get a decent wc'ed system I'd have to spend a lot more £ than I'd like. Although it would be sweeeet, no doubt about that.

I've gone back to the original idea of planting the system somewhere away from the desk and extending the cables. Should be cheap as I won't need to get USB hub/drives etc because it will still be within walking distance.

Should be very easy to route an extended USB cable (for the cordless keyboard and mouse set), dvi monitor extension lead, extended speaker cables, and an ethernet cable under the carpet from one side of the room to the other. Shouldn't cost much either

Well my only query now is, this might sound stupid at first, would there be any problems to run the computer in a shower room? The only real place I have to put it (apart from the wardrobe) is the ensuite. Nice and cool, with a nice solid door, oh my gosh it would be Perfect, I'd not hear a single thing once the door is closed.

Sorry for long post, nearly done.

When the shower is on, the window is open, and there is an extractor fan on. It doesn't really get REALLY hot and humid in there really tbh, especially with window wide open like I say. But still the mirror steams up.

Will this condensation cause much of a problem ? I know that sounds stupid, like '0Mfg u n00b ofcourse it's a problem - its going to fry!!!'. But im so desperate here I've just got to ask anyway! After all, arn't components built to withstand a certain amount of humidity? Don't they say on it on the specs?

Maybe I can build some kind of enclosure for it, to keep the condensation out, and fill it with silica gell packets you get in shoe boxes? But then how would I keep a constant exchange of fresh cool air in and out of the enclosure??

Ooh maybe if worse comes to worse I should just have a solid case/or towel that I will drop over the top of it when I have a shower, and remember to remove it afterwards??

Omg I so hope you guys can advise that this will work!! Fingers crossed.

Ps, the other option, having it inside the wardrobe, I'm worried I'm just going to have the same problems I have at the moment, that is not enough new air flow around it.

Thanks a lot if you've read this, and thanks in advance if you reply

A shower room is no place to locate a PC.

Mmmm I suppose you're right. Thats a shame.

    Ta

Edit - thinking about it, I could put it in a plastic cage/plastic box, the open cage type storage box you'd get from Homebase. It will be stood off the floor too on a non-conductive stand. The cage will surround it completely so there'd be no chance of anything touching it !

    What do u think ?

A good solution to cooling and noise is to take the 80mm out out of the ICE system, add a 80 - 120mm adapter and a decent 120mm fan run it at around 1000rpm and she'll be quieter and cooler

Thanks Firelord. I may well give that a go.

Ran out of options so I'm going to try it on the window sill (if it reaches) and then hopefully I'll be able to have all the fans running much slower anyway.

Steve who I live with did it on his SN84G and it made a 12c diff idle and 15c under load! Plus his system is cooler in general

^ Crkey!!! Ok I'm definitely going to give that a go !!

I've gone full circle now, the computer is going to go back in my cupboard. But the cupboard on other side of desk, without the power surge master or router. Should help keep the cupboard a bit cooler.

Even with the 12cm fan mod I think heat build up will continue to be a problem with the cupboard door closed. I'm thinking about having a S-shaped, large diametered plastic pipe taking the hot air from the exhaust fans at the rear of the shuttle, and out of the cupboard via the large gap at the back top. Maybe an extra fan would be needed at one end of the pipe to draw the air through I dont know??

The only thing then is how I can get new fresh cool air to enter the cupboard. If I was to cut a hole in the side of it at the bottom (bit reluctant to do as the desk is nice and new ), should fresh air automatically be drawn into the cupboard or would I need another fan to push the air in.

I've got a hole in the side directly over the top of the gfx card fan, drawing air in. The stock ICE cooler (possibly soon to be modded to 120mm) obviously blows out, as does the PSU fan (which I've already replaced with a near silent Adda fan). Also I've got a slot cooler which seems quite effective, blowing out quite cool air.

Any more ideas or suggestions with respect to the above will be very appreciated!

    Thanks again

Edit - thinking about it, in theory, if I was able to route all of the hot air out of the cupboard quickly & effectively, would I even need to worry about getting new air into the cupboard?? I would think not, I think that would just take care of itself ? ?? ?? ?? ? ?

Careful with putting a PC on a north facing external window ledge - the second time I tried this I used blutack on the bottom of the case and this was much more safe.

I've pondered the idea of having a centrally located cupboarded PC for a while and the real stopper for me was the optical disk swap problem. Now if someone could do a hack on one of them 100 CD hifis to enable it to be IDE cabled to a PC, with disk mount requests issuable from the PC keyboard, then that would be a mod well worth doing!

Why don't you put it in a fridge? This would block the sound and you wouldn't need much extra cooling. Yes, I know what your thinking - ''Where is my milk going to go'' - just stick it on the window ledge outside, worked in the old days!

    lol

    Thanks for latest replies.

I've decided to just take the easy way out, and have ordered the Reserator.

Thanks to nvening for originally suggesting it
